I've seen others, but they are called Magpul "PTS" sights, be careful because they are the lower quality "airsoft" versions. |

http://SSEquine.net/sbrgreens2.jpg Buy from a reputable reseller. Prices are pretty standardized and don't vary by more than a few bucks from place to place. IMHO, SKD Tactical is an excellent place to buy this kind of stuff. VERY fast shipping and they are utterly reliable. AR15: Magpul, Aimpoint, Bipod, Sling Mount, Vltor, LaRue, EOTech, Troy ::SKD TACTICAL |
Sometime in 2012 I am going to put a nice optic on my AR. I plan on using the MBUS backup.
Right now I am using a PSA carry handle which works 100% fine for me... but ultimately I want to step it up. |

My primary is a red-dot but should it fail, I can pull it off and go iron sights. Or even just flip them up, as they co-witness, so I can use them with the red-dot still mounted. |

So my new rifle took a big wet crap on me over the weekend :shakes head:
Picked it up from the gunsmith on Saturday, after he pinned the barrel and did the upper build for me, and polished the feed ramps. So I took it to the range on Sunday to test fire and zero the iron sights, before zeroing the red-dot. Got the first round off and was very surprised the sights were almost spot-on zero. Pulled the trigger a second time.. and... mis-fire... Waited 30 seconds, tap, rack, and fired again.. right on target :) Went to fire again.. and mis-fire.. WTF? Well turns out it was not cycling, so after a little diagnosis I find out the gas system is completely blocked, and no gas was being return to recock the action  I spoke to the gunsmith, who says he test fired it before I picked it up. After he test fired it, he normally removes one screw at a time on the gas block to add loctite. Then leaves it laying down on a bench to set. I'm told that after he put the loctite on the day before I picked it up, someone moved it and the loctite had probably got into the gas system and set hard. He was really good about wanting to fix it for me, saying he would meet me Sunday even though the store was closed, so he could fix it. As he's going to Delaware for the week, but I had plans in the afternoon, so I couldn't get it fixed. |
Sorry that happened...
It's not a big deal to unpin a gas block, but Rocksett (or other high temp loctite, which surely he used on the gas block) is a bugger to undo. Usually keeping the screws from falling out only requires just the smalled dab of Rocksett. I'd be interested to hear how he fixes the problem. I hope it all goes well. |

I find it hard to believe he used that much loctite that it blocked the hole or tube LOL |
That stinks, Darren. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

The barrels that I use, BCM and Centurion, all come from the factory dimpled for the rear set screw on a gas block. I would never rely on that, even with Rocksett, and I always have the gas block pinned (if I'm not using an FSB) in addition to the Rocksetted set screws. I hope he didn't mis-drill the dimple (assuming he dimpled it) or pin the gas block off-axis. IOW, install the gas block with the gas hole and barrel port misaligned. |

Anyway I'm sure I'll get the gas problem fixed next week :) |
Damn, Trooper, sorry to hear that bro. Im sure it'll all turn out for the best.

IMHO, the gas block should always be pinned. In addition, the barrel should always be dimpled for at least one of the two set screws on a typical gas block. If these things aren't done, the gas block can rotate or slide forward when the set screws come loose (and they will), in which case the gun won't cycle. My fear about a local gunsmith doing the gas block pinning is actually pinning it partially rotated - more likely if he doesn't have the proper jigs for that particular barrel. This is even more of a problem if the barrel isn't factory-dimpled, which will index the gas block exactly vertically so the gas port in the barrel aligns perfectly with the hole in the gas block. I tend to send my barrels for this kind of gunsmithing to either ADCO, AR15 Barrels, or Rainier. You might have great gunsmiths in your area (I don't, but given your experience, I'm not sure you do either). My local gunsmith is a friend and a great guy, but this kind of stuff isn't in his skill or tool set. But the companies above all do excellent work, and the barrel and gas system is such a critical part of the functionality of the rifle that that's where I have the work done. |

58 pages later and you're still talking about guns? :icon17:
Not possible, I must have missed the derailing somewhere. Well I guess I can just start a new one :stirthepot: |

I can always rent one or borrow someone else's to go shooting. Which reminds me, whatever happened to that shooting meet we were planning? Paintball meet wouldn't be a bad idea either. |

Oh, and guns aren't always that expensive. If you decide you like them it's something you should really consider buying NOW as a hedge against further government regulation on what you can or can't buy. You can get a good pistol for under $500... a Shotgun for much less... and many rifles for less as well. I went ahead and bought a really nice BCM AR-15 before I really was planning on it simply because I know I can buy them now... but who knows if I could 1-2 years from now with how volatile our political situation is? |
I don't want a gun. :|

That's fine. If you don't want one you don't want one. I know lots of people that love to shoot but actually have no interest in owning a gun. I personally believe all competent citizens should be issued a home defense shotgun, but that's just me. :icon17: |

https://danieldefense.com/rifles/car...arbine-v1.html I like how it has a tag on it that has all the people who signed off on specific tests the gunwent through before leaving DD also on a tag on the gun it says it has a full auto carrier, I know full auto is not legal but I am assuming if SHTF and i converted to full auto the gun would operate fine? |
