If you don't have a rear sight for it, I'd be inclined to recommend a Magpul MBUS if you're on a budget or a Troy fold-down if you're not. If you've played Modern Warfare Black Ops, you've seen the Troy rear sight. (Note however, that in Black Ops, that Troy sight is installed backwards on all the rifles.) Shoot it with the irons to get the feel of the gun, then start considering more robust optics. You might want to consider a sling. There's not a quick-detach on the MOE stock, but you can strap into the rear slot. Other option is to replace the end-plate with a Noveske quick-detach plate. They're pretty cheap at $24, but you'd need a stock wrench to pull the buffer tube and replace the endplate. On the front, I use a Mount-n'-slot attached to the rear of the MOE handguard on my MOE-based SBR. You could attach to the front sling swivel, but I'll bet you find mounting the sling there annoying as it will get in the way of your support hand. http://SSEquine.net/sbrgreens.jpg |
Thanks, Mac.
I have a traditional carry handle on the way, so I will use that for a while. Later I will look at the Aimpoint/Eotech and Trijicon's of the world to see what kind of optic I want, along with the MBUS rear backup sight. |

I'll keep that in mind.
I just wanted to keep things basic to start with, then I'll ditch the handle and go for the RDS and BUS. |

Just get a flip/fold iron sight for the rear. You have a nice flat-top receiver, I would keep it that way, and just mount a red-dot. |
Well the CH is already on the way.
I am pretty sure I will upgrade to an RDS and the MBUS rear backup sight at some point in the future. I want to get comfortable with the weapon first. |

By the way, anyone got a quick summary on Shotgun ownership in MD?
Paperwork/registration required?, wait time (usual 7 days)? I'm thinking about a Remington 870 or Mossberg 500, but need a little more research. |

I've mentioned before my skepticism about recent and current SIG firearms. While earlier versions (German) are superb, reliable weapons, the new SigArms paradigm is quite suspect in the view of many, many department armorers.
I saw a thread on another sight that illustrates another direction relative to SIG corporate concept and IMHO is even more puzzling to me than their often-reported current corner cutting in design and relative lack of quality control. Admittedly, I view firearms as tools, not as art, but the Sig MasterShop has gone beyond my ability to comprehend their overall corporate policy. I think it's illustrative of Sig's new corporate direction and represents a reason I wouldn't buy a current Sig firearm. I would rather have one of these than a painting of Elvis on black velvet, but still..... http://www.sigsauer.com/upFiles/cata...bty-Detail.jpg http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...n-detail-L.jpg http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...L-Detail_L.jpg http://sigsauer.com/upFiles/catalog/...ero-Detail.jpg http://www.sigsauer.com/upFiles/cata...d-Detail-R.jpg http://www.sigsauer.com/upFiles/cata...il-bty-dwn.jpg And the classic... http://pistol-training.com/wp-conten...9/SIG-PiMP.jpg |
LOL, my money says you're a Glock fanboy :icon18:
There's a reason many forces & spec-ops, and ex-military (myself), choose Sig. Besides, if a problem occurs with a firearm, I can always beat them with a heavy steel Sig, not a polymer Glock ;) |

As to Special Forces, the SEALs have been issued Sig P226 since 1986, but they're not buying new versions, continuing to use the ones in inventory. Individual units can use whatever they want, but the current acquisition trend is toward the HK USP in .45. Rangers are still using the M9, Delta, I don't know but Larry Vickers at a course last year said they're abandoning the Sig in droves. He indicated that they're moving toward Glocks, but I take that with a grain of salt because he IS a Glock fanboy (and has nothing good to say about Sigs other than their illustrious history). Anyway, you can't use agency purchases as an indicator of quality, only of contracting price. A perfect example of that was the military pistol trials in 1985. Sig P226 actually won that competition by a handy margin but the Beretta was selected on the basis of slightly lower cost and the fact that they agreed to build them in the US. Most US forces including SEALs went with the M9, but in high round-count shooting such as the SEALs do, the Beretta suffered occasional slide-stop failures where the slide would fly off and hit the shooter in the jaw. It lead to the old saying "You're not a real SEAL until you've tasted Italian steel". That was the point at which they switched over to the P226 as their issue weapon. The more recent move toward HK has been precisely because of skepticism about current Sigs. (edited to add info from a buddy I called this morning. He is/was a Navy SEAL, moved up to SOCOM and was there until he retired two years ago.) |

Probably looking at the 870 Express Tactical. What do you think of yours.. pros? cons? |
I have an 870 Express that I added a Knoxx Specops stock to. It's gobs of fun. I love it.
I took the AR to the range today. The sightmark RDS is a POS but otherwise it shoots great. Can't wait to get it sighted in with the irons and spend more quality time with it... all I was really doing today was shooting in the general vicinity of a target and making sure everything functioned properly. Also tried some Sellier & Bellot 9mm FMJ (124gr) today and found that it didn't reliably fire in the Ruger LC9 but seemed to shoot fine out of my G26. Seems to have a pretty hard primer |

As for the 870, I think that may be my next purchase LOL Not sure I need a scope on it for anything less than 10yrds, and 00-shot for home defense. |

So I bought it to really acquaint myself with it, and now Im good to go. I love it though, its badass, I have not done any mods to it though. I'd say buy one, they're cheap too. |
