Hopefully this address will go in our nav:
50 fontana Road, fontana dam, nc 28733

zZSportZz 05-19-2010 01:14 PM

I set my NAV to follow the stops in the trip ticket Steve sent out. I'll just have to re-click on the new waypoint each time I get to one. Just plugging in the address to Fontana took me to east bumfuck and back.

I'm sure there is going to be some sitting around a fire and what not. Unfortunately I only have one...but thought I would mention it anyway. They fold neatly into a little tube like sac. Some of the events say "bring your own lawn chairs".

Just added that to my packing list! I had totally forgotten about it.. .thanks!

I have two that I'll bring. Mine don't have arm rests but they are still comfy!

m4a1mustang 05-19-2010 02:14 PM

So... the Sprint Cup All-Star race is Saturday night... there should be a viewing party if Speed TV is available. :D

tooohip 05-19-2010 02:22 PM

I doubt they have Speed TV there...

There are a few of us! I don't watch it, I enjoy it -- but I'm originally from Arkansas, so I'm probably genetically disposed to watching cars go fast.

Sscottfitz 05-19-2010 07:32 PM

Zelda is fueled up, ALMOST packed. We plan to depart the house NLT 05:15'ish, should be at the parking lot NLT 05:30. See you guys there.

Lance, you're probably correct, but it IS North Carolina -- they just might -- I figure if they have TV, they'll have it via satellite, so it's "possible".........

m4a1mustang 05-19-2010 07:35 PM

I'm getting packed. About 20% complete... haha.

I am going to try to be there NLT 5:30 as well... gonna have to leave by 5.

Lat/Long for Fontana Village Resort

If anyone is interested......(probably more accurate than a street address if your GPS will allow coordinates for navigation) -- most Garmins do.

zZSportZz 05-19-2010 08:01 PM

I was born and grew up in NLR until '73, then moved up to Mtn Home where I graduated HS -- Deb and I both have our undergrads from ASU (Jonesboro). Have family both in NLR & Hot Springs Village.

Cool. I know the area well. I did my research in the ozark national forest south of there. I would stay in a town called mountain view (To this day I still want to go back and eat there at a little restaurant called "the dogwood hollow" - where I ate dinner every single night when out in the field). My days were usually spent around a tiny little town called "Fifty Six". When not out doing research, I was in Fayetteville.

Sscottfitz 05-19-2010 09:18 PM

OK there BoyZ and GirlZ -- the FitzGerald's are packed and hitting the rack -- if you ain't in bed yet, get there soon -- see ya'll in the morning!!!

m4a1mustang 05-19-2010 09:19 PM

See ya! I am mostly packed. Trying to get to bed by 11.

Sscottfitz 05-19-2010 09:20 PM

OBTW -- don't forget to pack some "wet weather" gear -- last look at the NOAA weather for Bryson City, NC was NOT encouraging for Friday or Saturday. Maybe someone should bring a deck of cards......:icon17:

Made It Back in One Piece....

Made it back to the house around 5 PM -- I've NEVER seen so many State Troopers on I-81. We think the count was about 28 total (including the two on I-26), and only a few were without customers. It was amazing -- figured they are either catching up with lost revenue, or ramping up for the holiday weekend.

Thanks all -- we had a great time!!

Back home and safe as well....however I did decide to donate 140 dollars to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

OUCH? Must not of been TOO much over if it was only a buck-forty -- but I'm sure it sucked none the less. Sorry to hear about the ticket, but glad you made it home safely.

He clocked me at 73 in a 55. These two trucks were side by side going slow down this huge hill....and they were closing in on an RV (3 lanes) which would have pinched me off....so I speed up to pass them and the instant I cleared them coming around a bend he was sitting there. Looked down...knew I was ******...he pulled out...I started pulling over before the blues even went on lol. He was really nice about it though, he dropped it to 64 in a 55....which is just a 15 dollar fine but like 130 in court costs..so he helped me out a bit.

I should also mention it's a speed trap....the speed limit went from 70 (maybe 65) to 55 just for this hill. So it was a double whammy.

Edit: Ticket says R 73 S for speed...so assuming that radar 73...something.

Awesome time guys! I got pulled over by one of those troopers and you know why he pulled me over... my TINT! I wasn't even speeding! He checked it and it came out to 27% with a 7 percent margin of error. With the margin of error, I am pretty much legal in Maryland and he was cool about it. He said he wasn't going to mess with me for that and then talked to me for a couple minutes about my car, LOL!

That's crazy -- have you every seen so many cops on that long a stretch of road in a single day? Must of been a weekend special "surge"......

27% huh? Interesting.....

We had a great time too......so you guys must of made it out not TOO long after we did? (we departed just a hair before 06:30). Was Tony with you?

tooohip 05-23-2010 06:04 PM

Na Tony wasn't with me. I don't know if he managed to leave before or what, but I didn't see his car anywhere when I looked for him this morning.

Oh and yeah, the trooper level was CRAZY!!!

ZCarMan 05-23-2010 06:28 PM

Hey Guys! We made it home about 4:30PM. Rick, sorry I didn't get a picture of you but Pat tried. We just didn't know you were going to be posing so soon after you said that! Sorry you had to donate that much as well. We saw several troopers on the way back but not as bad as you guys were talking about! Oh by the way, moonshine dot com has photos of Lance, Steve, Rick, Omar, and myself up from the 22nd. For some reason I didn't see Steve and Deb. Maybe I missed it. I viewed the Dragon video and it came out really nice. I'll burn some DVDs and give each one of you a copy if you like. I know Omar also had Steve's GoPro so I'm hoping I can get a copy of that too. We had a blast and are already looking forward to next year! So, now where is Tony???

Hey Jon,

I'll have to check that site out. What's the actual URL? I'm not finding the right sight by googling it.

Not sure about Tony! He's probably looking for someone to drive his car to I-81. ;-)
