MAZOC ZDayZ 2017 Wrap-Up
Thank you guys for another fun ZDayZ in the books. My 7th, and first after missing last year. It was good to be back.
The BMW did very well, especially considering it's all stock stuff! Might try to put some sway bars on it for next year but that's about it. Big thanks to Shahid for letting me drive the C7 a couple times... bummer about the brake/fuel issues, but otherwise fun. Huge thanks to Michael and Chris for all of their work on the Staff this year. Michael -- I'm serious about helping next year, just let me know. Z1N0NLY and the morning crew -- great fun as always. :driving: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/9t...w1000-h1169-no |
good times.

I had a great time. It was nice to meet ya. Driving with the morning crew was where to be, that's for sure.

Uploading a video now. -Not sure which thread to post in. I thought there used to be a media share thread after ZdayZ?

One of these days I am going to show up with a downforce car just so I can keep Mike in my sights for more than 2 corners.

Like I told Shahid, we literally had to take 150hp away from Mike and give it to me just so I could keep him in sight... on Hellbender! He's got that killer instinct and commitment that comes with natural ability and consistent practice. I'll never keep up with Mike on The Dragon, and I'm OK with that. I might work on a few things with the BMW just to get it a bit more comfortable for me, maybe get it to within 90-95% of where my 370 was. But I'll never hang with Mike, and I shouldn't try. That usually leads to... events. :roflpuke2: I keep telling myself I need to take up AutoX to continue honing the driver mod and keep my skills up, since these days my only "performance driving" happens at ZDayZ. |

Thanks guys. :tiphat:
I was happy the car did as well as it did. She's down on power, but damn can she dance! The STU 350Z made the run in 10:13 back in 2015. The street-class FRS took 10:18 with the Focus RS in the way for a bit, but I still don't think a fully open run would have covered the whole gap. I was holding more speed through turns and transitions but not quite enough to fully cover the straight-line advantage the STU Z had. |

Be careful of the painted white lines when they don't stay on the side of the road. I guess I hit one just right that came out in the lane. Never had any issues before.
|
That was close!
I also had a run in with a painted line that morning, only it was on the way out to the Dragon. I took a wide arc into a right-hander and clipped the double yellow with my left rear. I lost a bit of traction and held a small drift through the corner however the car kept coming around on exit so we had to fight a bit of a "tank slapper." I should have known better and should have been keeping a tidier line! |
I gotta say, I didnt touch the yellow line all weekend... and for that, I am proud. :ugh::ugh::ugh::ugh:
|
Close don't count. Only thing that surprised me is I was right back at it. Didn't phase me a bit until I parked to eat breakfast. LOL

I thought the problem started when the turn went off-camber (well...flat anyway) just before the straight. Through some of the turn, the road was "helping" you, then the help ended before the lateral forces were "done" and the rear stepped left. Your reaction was pretty quick considering it looked like a surprise. Things could have gone a lot worse with a later reaction. You also seemed to instinctively minimize how much you "argued" with inertia while you gathered it up, that helped too. |

I'd rather have a fully open diff than Nissan's VLSD. Once that thing gets hot it is so unpredictable.

ZDayZ Pics
All,
You should be receiving a notification from drop box with access to a folder with our pics from ZDayZ. If you don't get it, it probably means I left you off the mailing list, so just shoot me a PM, and I'll add you to the access list. Hope you all have a great memorial day weekend. We're doing NOTHING this weekend other than watching the "boob tube" and getting some rest. I my try to get out and clean up the Z between storms..... Later, Steve & Deb OBTW, Deb got a CEL on her Nissan Monday morning - $3.2K later, her car is back to near normal.......the big one was a internal failing seal effecting oil pressure in the crankcase........ |
