Caravan Details

Where: We will meet at the Fair Lakes, VA Starbucks (our "Old" Saturday meeting spot)

When: Plan to arrive between 5:30AM-5:45 AM on Sunday, May 15th. We will start the Caravan to ZDayZ at approximately 6:00AM. We'll coordinate the Post ZDayZ caravan once we are down there and have a better idea as to when everyone that wants to caravan can be up and at 'em and ready to roll.

Note that there is a Sunoco fuel station nearby if you need to fill up. Please arrive with a full tank. If you continue driving past the meet location, make the first right after you cross under the bridge. The Sunoco will be on your left, next to the CVS.

The Route: ZDAYZ Caravan Route - Google Maps

Food & Drinks

As you can tell by the registration form, I'm trying to get a better gauge at how many mouths we have to feed for how many nights. Hopefully this will give us a good idea of what and how much food/drink we need to gather for the group. As the picture becomes a little more clear we can start compiling a list of what we need and see who plans on providing what.

We typically have standard grill fare, but if you have anything special in mind that you'd like to cook one night just let us know here and we can work with it. Also, if you have special dietary requirements let us know and we'll see what you can do, but chances are you'll need to provide your own food.

If you are willing to cook or help prepare a meal, please indicate that in a response. I'll update the meal list below as Chefs volunteer and menus are identified.

MEALS:
When Chef(s) Menu
Sun Dinner: On Your Own (Arriving too late to bother cooking meal)
Mon Lunch: Lunch Stuff at the Cabin
Mon Dinner: Shahid Chicken Tikka
Tues Lunch: Lunch Stuff at the Cabin
Tues Dinner: Aniceh "Some fish dish"
Wed Lunch: Lunch Stuff at the Cabin
Wed Dinner:
Thur Lunch: Lunch Stuff at the Cabin
Thur Dinner:
Fri Lunch: Lunch Stuff at the Cabin (Dai and Daniella are preparing lunch for the volunteer team)
Fri Dinner:
Sat Lunch: Lunch Stuff at the Cabin
Sat Dinner:

VOLUNTEER Event
MAZOC will be supporting ZDAYZ again this year by volunteering at registration. We have plenty of people (Listed below) and will be working the registration tables Friday from 1pm - 5pm. With the large number of folks we have, we should have enough to allow some of us to break away and see the Chris F. drift demo since it is happening during our registration period. I missed it last year, but I am willing to stay in the registration area to allow others to go to the demo. You just have to agree to take some video to show me ;-). Any others willing to stay at registration?

Michael Dorrity
Jon Hubbard
Patricia Fraser
Aniceh Zolfagharian
Emily Sauter
Steve Fitzgerald
Deborah Fitzgerald
Shahid Shafiq
David McConagha

Things To Do

We may be organizing a couple fun and scenic loops like we have done in years past. We will probably have a winery, brewery or a distillery tour (who am I kidding, this is MAZOC and I may need to change that "or" to an "AND" :icon17:), and maybe a trip to the "Mountain Roller Coaster" near Gatlinburg. An off-road trip in the Jeep will be planned as well. I'll provide details as we get closer to May. Please let me know if you want to lead any tours or outings.

OUTINGS:
FISHING: Steve will be doing some fishing and can give the schedule for me to post here.
4x4: I'll be taking the Jeep off-roading on Tuesday or Wednesday if anyone wants to ride along.
Cruise: To Gatlinburg to do the mountain roller coasters ?????? One idea
Cruise: To alcohol... Winery, brewery and distillery

Put me down for Sun-Sun. I'm a maybe for the Caravan. At this point I'm thinking that I'll meet you guys en-route like I did last year with Chris Grigg. Chris is doing Sun-Sun as well and most likely will be hanging out with us most of the time. I'll let you guys know his plans when I know. Food wise, I plan on eating with MAZOC as much as possible and will contribute food/drink/money to the cause.

Big question: Are we doing a pig roast again and more importantly are we hosting a party for all the early birds on Monday or Tuesday? I remember Steve and John talking about doing the party as an official-unofficial ZDayZ event with Brian Settle last year.

VABAM 03-15-2016 11:34 AM

Missed the Google Doc first time around.

Look forward to meeting up! I hope you plan on avoiding the road gators this time!

I'll reach out to Bryan to see if he is game for the unofficial opening party. I think that could be fun. I'm game, but will need more support from the MAZOC crowd and Brian's group to pull that off. Anyone???

The road gator was 2014 but yes I always try to avoid them but it is hard when the guy in front of you kicks one up.

Registered.

I plan to join the caravan Sunday morning on Interstate 66 at Front Royal Exit 6, Route 522.

After we get to Fontana Lake Sunday evening I'm heading on to Knoxville Monday through Wednesday. Will return from Knoxville on Thursday morning. Staying in Robbinsvile at Microtel Inn, $75.00 per night (vs. $124 at Fontana Village if they had a room, which they don't.)) Thursday through Saturday. I have an extra bed I'm willing to share. Microtel still has a few rooms if anyone is interested in reserving their own. 828-479-6772. It's about 30 minutes from Fontana Village at the other end of the Dragon.

Will be glad to help with lunch (dollars or labor) on Thursday, Friday, Saturday.

Will join the caravan on return trip Sunday if one is organized.

Thanks for all your time and effort coordinating this. Regards, Dave

We are having the ZDAYZ Staff over for dinner at least once between Monday and Tuesday. They are on a skeleton crew at that point, so it may just be 2-3 extra. With that small of a group, they can eat with us anytime...

I'll be starting to update the original message in the thread soon.

Don't forget to register and volunteer for cooking.

So I have a cabin from Thursday - Sunday, but I am interested in the trip out there with everyone. Leaving Sunday would be fine, but I gotta figure out where I'd be staying from Sunday - Wednesday :\

VABAM 03-18-2016 12:06 PM

For those who haven't heard yet, my schedule changed and I'm not getting home until June now so, no ZDayZ for me. :(

eastwest2300 03-18-2016 08:37 PM

damn... I'm sorry bro.

aniceh 03-19-2016 10:43 AM

I'll be arriving on Monday, likely too late to cook (though probably not too late to eat :p), but I'd be happy to cook dinner on Tuesday. I'll probably make some kind of fish. If the pig roast is going to happen, I could bring tortillas, salsa, sour cream, cheese, hot sauce, and lettuce like I did last year so people can have pork tacos for lunches and snacks through the week, and some black beans and rice so the non-meat-eaters have a complete protein option. Hell, I might even do fish tacos for my dinner night!

I'd be happy to support an early bird party, just let me know what I can do!

You can put me down for one meal to make the Chicken Tikka I made for the BBQ last year. I might have to pack the cooler with the chicken in someone else's truck before ZDAYZ since the C7 has less interior space than the Z.

ZCarMan 03-19-2016 03:53 PM

Pat and I are registered up. I'm standing by to see what the numbers are going to be like this year for mouths to feed to determine if I'll be roasting another pig. I'm leaning towards not doing it unless we have a lot. We had tons of left overs and actually had to trash a good amount at the end. If Bryan is only having a few people then we probably can just do the usual grill fare.

I may be hitting a Costco on the way to Fontana from Nashville. If that's the case, I could pick up chicken for you on the way. I'll need to have my cooler with me for my stuff anyway. I can check in with you as we get closer to travel dates, if you want.

Crap, never mind, just remembered you need halal.

Also, I was considering picking up a box of black bean burgers from Costco so the likes of you and me would have easy meals when everyone else is eating hamburgers. Would you be interested?

Yeah I need halal chicken so that wont work. I'm also thinking about marinating the chicken at home and then bringing it in a cooler. This way I can get my mom's help with all the spices. I'll do a spicy and non-spicy batch, unless everyone just wants the spicy version.

The black bean burgers sound like a great idea! I saw them at Costco yesterday and thought about picking some up. I was planning on bringing some Costco salmon burgers and salmon fillets down with me so we can share those as well. We'll have our own little Pescatarian party :icon17:

eastwest2300 03-21-2016 11:31 AM

Fellas, I found a place to crash, I'll be staying with the guys from the Great Lakes Z Club, they've taken me in.. Maybe we could all link up, do a big dinner or something. Really nice group of fellas.

b1adesofcha0s 03-21-2016 11:48 AM

If you're only gonna be there on Friday/Saturday, everyone pretty much has dinner together anyway. I skipped on the dinner from Fontana and will probably just grab food before/after the evening festivities just like last year.

Z Stig 03-23-2016 08:01 AM

I will meet you guys down there on Sunday, but will not be caravanning down there with MAZOC :(. I am going to be driving down that Friday to spend some time in Asheville. I'll get to Fontana around 6 in the evening on Sunday. I'll also check the Google doc registration form and update the OP soon. So please register if you have not already done so.
