2015 MAZOC Gordon Biersch Dinner + Karting

As I discussed with some people at the BBQ this past weekend, I think it's time to start planning our annual Gordon Biersch dinner. I think it might be cool to change things up a bit this year and do some Karting before we head to dinner at GB in Annapolis.

Go Kart Raceway in Crofton has a 1/2 mile outdoor track. Cost there is $2.75/lap. Depending on how many people are interested in Karting, we could possibly do a 1 hour track rental as well ($750). They don't seem to have a map of their track on their website, but you can see it in the Google Maps link below.

It's a 15 minute drive from the Go Kart Raceway to Gordon Biersch in Annapolis.

Please use the poll in this thread to select the date(s) that work best for you. Steve has indicated that he wants to do an Old Stein Inn dinner around September 18th so I'm going to exclude that weekend from the list of options. Also post if you are interested in one or both of the above activities and I'll get a list of attendees for each one.

I'm actually good for any of those days but I just picked what date was currently trending.

I'd be in for the GB, but not the go cart racing. :ugh:

I'm definitely down for the mid-later dates, if it gets pushed into September I may be bringing a bro too. Got a buddy moving up here around September 11-12ish. Either way I am definitely down for Karts. Is that the place I have been hearing about near Jessup with 60 mph Go Karts?!

You can select multiple dates. I would recommend picking all the dates you're available.

You could still come with us and watch/hang out while we drive the karts.

No that is an indoor karting place, this is outdoor. The track layout for this one seems more fun to me since it has more turns. Here's a link to the one in Jessup, Autobahn Indoor Speedway

I don't know if I'd be available for karting but I could definitely do dinner. August 29th or Sept 5th work best for me.

You're right.;)

I'm booked up with other stuff to do on every one of those weekends except September 5th and 26th. I would be able to break out for dinner perhaps but not do karting. August 29 is my birthday and we have already planned for dinner at the Baltimore Fogo de Chão.

September 5th would be the best for me. Louise is out of town with her sister and mother the entire labor day weekend. Pete would likely be able to go though. He really likes karting a lot.

Don't get your hopes up about Autobahn Raceway. The karts are quick....if they let them be. Except for one problem: the tracks are super small as it is (think .1 mile total, between the TWO tracks combined...), and not many passing opportunities exist. This heavily favors skinny drivers, and aggressive drivers that divebomb corners. It's good enough for a fix, but it just makes me want some real karting that much more.

Unfortunately, the best option is closed right now, and has no location as of yet...

:iagree:

Autobahn wasn't really that fun compared to the cost. You'd have more fun just driving your Z. Too bad I never got a chance to try out SPK.

I would be in for Karting and dinner! Put in my vote for the dates, thanks for organizing these dudes! Maybe I can find some prizes around the shop for the fastest drivers!

Also, I somehow doubt I'd care about karting for this one. Honestly, just not worth time time/money for me, after watching some video. GB certainly, though.

Whether we end up doing it or not depends on how much interest we get for it. Probably not worth the effort if we only have like 3 people interested in it. First step though is to lock down the date. I'll give the poll another week or so before finalizing the date.
