Quick question about creditors and debtors etc

I received a notice from a collections agency last month and it was sent to my home address but the name on the notice was "gentlemen". The collection agency is hired on behalf of a local cable company in relation to equipment that has not been returned. I duly called the local cable company last month and explained the situation but they had nothing under my name nor address. I then called the collection agency and they informed it was for the previous owner of my home and that they would remove this, bearing in mind I purchased my current home from him back in 2011.

My question is simple, they sent me another collection letter today, named to "gentlemen" again and not my actual name nor the previous owners name. Can this go against my credit?

I would say no, and if it does somehow end up on there (not sure how it would) it would be very easy to have reversed.

Nope.....Its an attempt to collect a debt in which is not under your name therefore no worries. Tear it up and throw it away.

As long you didn't sign for anything and they don't have your social everything should be good!

Yep. Unless it has some of your personal info on it (name, SSN, &c), throw 'em away and sleep easy.

It's either a scam (probably not or they would have been a lot pushier on the phone) or they bought some old accounts with out-of-date info.
