I need some help thats not Z related. Super Important. Minsu

Mods this is urgent, could you keep this here for just today then move it.

So im getting my first bike and im not part of any other forum..cause you know i love you guys

Heres the issue, Lets call him Mr.C.
Mr. C has the bike but not the title, cause he didnt pay it off yet.
I would give him the money, we both go to the Credit union where he got the loan, he would pay it off, we would both sign documents saying it was paid off. Then we would go to the CT DMV and print out the bill of sale form. And basically when he gets the title, i will either go and get it to get to signed over to me or we will meet somewhere and get it done.

Im going to his house to see the bike and making copies of drivers license and getting everything we need to get notarized, notarized.

Hes a cop...btw.

So what are your thoughts, did i cover my *** enough to not get burned?

mishuko 11-28-2014 08:55 AM

he may be a cop but i would get something in writting like making a contract where you both sign....

also probably best not to pay him directly but have the draft/money ready go to the credit union together and then watch the union process the money together.

sort of like a used car sale... a car may still have a lien on it but it has to be cleared before sale can be finalized/take place.

Minsu 11-28-2014 08:56 AM

Yea he said we would sign a contract, get it notarized. He mentionedd going to the credit union together as well.

mishuko 11-28-2014 09:04 AM

well his professional conduct is also on the line and seems like he's trying to cover his but as much as yours.

another thing i'd be cautious about is how long it will take between clearing the lien and when he will get the title... see how long it will take as there is usually a delay in the paperwork train!

Minsu 11-28-2014 09:07 AM

So this is what I told him.
I need:

A contract stating the situation
copies of drivers license
go to the credit union and i hand him the money there
a bill of sale from CT DMV
and he said that we can write the contract at his house and get anything that needs to be notarized notarized.

am i covered?

he also mentioned the title would come in a week or two as well.

Mt Tam I am 11-28-2014 09:24 AM

I think it should work. Eons ago when I bought my 280Z, we went to his bank with my money, then DMV and got the pink slip that day, or some form of ownership at any rate.

I would hand the credit union the money, not him. And AFAIK no DMV will provide a bill of sale - the seller provides that.

But yes, it sounds like you are covered.

Minsu 11-28-2014 04:16 PM

Boom, went to the union, gave THEM the money, they gave me title, he signed it over to me, got my title, hes driving yhe bike up for me tmr yay!

shaun66 11-28-2014 04:31 PM

Why cant he just change the mailing address to your address with the credit union, so that way you never have to see him again, and you know you will get the title. If the credit union knows that its being sold, they shouldn't have any issue sending it straight to you.

Minsu 11-28-2014 04:42 PM

I have the title already

vividracing 11-28-2014 04:44 PM

How do you already have the title to the bike, if he needs to pay off the loan before he can sell the bike? The credit union should have the title

Minsu 11-28-2014 04:49 PM

We went together to the credit union, I paid them, they gave me title

TerribleONE 11-28-2014 04:51 PM

He went and paid the credit union directly.

Congrats on the bike!

vividracing 11-28-2014 04:51 PM

Maybe im missing the question you're trying to ask. Sounds like you already did the transaction and you have the bike

Minsu 11-28-2014 04:51 PM

Yep it was urgent, and I got it done all in one day haha,

vividracing 11-28-2014 04:52 PM

vividracing 11-28-2014 06:13 PM

Minsu 11-28-2014 06:14 PM

Yes sir, msf took care of that, spent 1500 on very high end gear, I'm fully suited pretty much

vividracing 11-28-2014 06:16 PM

Nice. You'll drive like a complete newbie for about a week maybe, and after that, it will seem like second nature. Then you can step up into the sport bike world and go 160mph if you want

Ok so, do i have to get Insurance FIRST?
I got the bike in CT and im trying to register it in NJ.
I have the title and bill of sale.
Can i not get it registered until i have insurance on the vehicle?

YzGyz 11-29-2014 09:09 AM

That is a really good bike to learn to ride on! In about 6 months your going to wish you got the zx6r though. I learn to ride on a zx6r. It took a good 400 miles or so before my back and wrist to stop hurting. I was doing city riding and not properly using my cores.

Keep the wheels down bro.

Jasonle 11-29-2014 10:05 AM

Congrats! Welcome to the kawasaki family! I have a zx6r :)
