West Africa Ebola Polling

I'm doing an assignment for my Critical Thinking class and I'm suppose to poll random people about...

1. Should we allow people from West Africa or people who have recently travel to West Africa to enter our USA borders?

2. Are you aware of the Ebola situation?

3. Should we Quarantine Folks for 21 days?

I would greatly appreciate it if you could kindly give me some of your opinions on this situation. It doesn't have to be a long, short answers are acceptable.

Thank you!

JARblue 10-17-2014 09:03 AM

Yes
No

West Africa is much bigger than the three countries having major outbreaks. Also the mortality rate in the USA is closer to 10% than the 40-50% avg in this current outbreak. 21 days is a long fvcking time.

mishuko 10-17-2014 09:09 AM

disclosure i'm from canada but i think it should apply everywhere.

1. travel bans should be in place. it may not be super contagious like the flu, but you need to isolate the problem. it's a one-way ticket to those quarantine areas and if you want out you have to be screened + quarantined.

2. yes, i shake my head. look at that CNN video showing the reporter without a haz mat suit on with the clipboard. wtf is that.

3. quarantine as long as they deem acceptable. no point in getting sick and spreading it to your loved ones or others.

FPenvy 10-17-2014 09:18 AM

dont allow them to enter the US

we have got our own problems here. we dont need to another country's horrible virus.....again.

as for 21 days.......i could deal with it. give me an xbox and i'll be just fine. sounds like a nice paid vacation from work honestly. just you know the whole making sure i get cured part would be the concern lol

Mitco39 10-17-2014 10:13 AM

I heard this on the radio yesterday, I agree 100%

1. No
2. Yes
3. Yes. At least long enough to verify whether or not they have it.

Masterbeatty 10-19-2014 09:40 PM

Ban flights from Africa until the people are known not to carry it. For the U.S. of A. Close the damn borders until we stop having cases come up. Has anyone ever read WWZ or the zombie survival guide. Come on!

NoLaKrewe 10-19-2014 09:54 PM

Buy stocks in fear.. because that **** is selling. Don't forget about ISIS guys. They're dropping ebola Bombs on everyone.

DEpointfive0 10-19-2014 10:12 PM

Look at #1. If they're traveling elsewhere, sure I guess. Don't use my tax money.

Yes. If you have been in a high-risk area, you should certainly be scrutinized, but, from everything I've read from what I consider to be reliable sources, the risk of spreading the disease is rather low with less Draconian measures than an outright ban.

I would like to think so.

Only if there is good reason to believe they have been exposed. Just being in the same country is not, by itself, a good reason.

I'll try to avoid people that have been to that part of the world until this blows over ... but that shouldn't be too difficult here in Middle-of-Nowhere, AR. I'm slightly more concerned about getting Ebola than I am about being abducted by aliens. :)

Those are fiction though.

We should be more concerned with measles, mumps, and rubella.

I was just talking with a friend who's an OBGYN. Had a pregnant patient come in demanding an Ebola vaccine. When he explained that we don't yet have a Vx but that she should have a flu Vx for the safety of her and her baby she stopped listening and wouldn't get any vaccines.

That being said, I've done some Hazmat trainingn and the suits they wear (and to a lesser degree isolation gowns I wear at work) are incredibly difficult to take off without getting contaminated.

1. yes
2. yes, at least I follow it on the news and have taken a few virology courses.
3. on

yes

I don't see why the US can't have a military plane doing round trips for people who need to come and go, and shut down commercial flights. At least until we have a vaccine.
Seems your "phd" head of the CDC is a bit of a retard.

You only say that because we're on week 2 of the outbreak.
People probably said the same of the black plauge when it first started.
If Ebola has exponential growth(number of deaths double every 20 days) with a 50% death rate, we could easily have hundreds of millions dead.

Two cases in the US doesn't exactly qualify as an outbreak.

If pigs had wings...
So far, the death rate in the US is zero and the growth rate is pretty close to the same.

Be aware but don't over-react.

Comparing this to the black plaque is stupid. We're not all going to go to church and pray the devil away to help fight ebola.

Z Spec 10-20-2014 03:17 PM

I thank you all for taking your precious time and answering the poll for my assignment. This what I love about the 370z community, they're extremely helpful in any kind of situation.

Yep, thankfully those genes of ignorance died with the holders.

I figured you were just trying to rhyme...

NoLaKrewe 10-21-2014 07:22 PM

I would tell you a joke about ebola, but you probably won't get it.

Mitco39 10-24-2014 09:00 AM

So I see now that a Doctor who just returned back from treating Ebola patients in Africa is sick in New York.

Wtf?? I wouldnt be surprised if more people he came into contact with on his flight and in New York are now carrying it.

I dont get it.

FPenvy 10-24-2014 09:01 AM

i have an idea.

let the african doctors deal with their problems.

US doctors stay here and deal with ours.

why are the "smartest" people always the most retarded.

TxBlueZ34 10-24-2014 09:34 AM

From what they were saying he followed protocol on what to do since he was asymptomatic when he was in contact with people, however even if he is knowledgeable and been treating the disease when he was in Africa he should of been quarantined and tested for public safety.

It's not just doctors, but all other healthcare workers volunteering in africa.

and even regular people. They fly over to america not knowing they have ebola, and then when they get sick in america, they go to an american hospital and infect the doctors/healthcare workers here.

Africa needs doctors and volunteers to control the disease because of a lack of infrastructure and resources. but then you have the problem of healthcareworkers/volunteers not knowing they have ebola spread the virus abroad. They should quarantine all healthcare workers/volunteers BEFORE they leave west africa to ensure they dont have the virus.

it's just irresponsible to come back with the possibility of even spreading the virus further.

i get it. they dont have the means to battle it properly over there. but i feel if you wanna go over and help out good for you. just dont come back and bring that shit over here where it isnt needed. lol

can't we just take like doctors guilty of malpractice or black market organ dealing and bannish them to go help the africans? :stirthepot:

on a serious note: i get why people want to go and help but i do not see a reason why this should be a virus spreading on US soil where it should not even be an issue. keep that nasty stuff over there.

TxBlueZ34 10-24-2014 10:06 AM

i think the main reason is people being naive that nothing like that can ever come or even happen in the U.S. Being a healthcare worker myself there was a little uncertainty with people i could come to contact with at work or even fellow co-workers which caused a lot of anxiety for everybody. For instance, the majority of healthcare workers are not properly trained to handle or even been in contact with these specifics patients. Granted we have protocols that we follow when dealing with isolated patients but this takes it to another extreme like the healthcare workers from Dallas. All in all being being more informed from the CDC as well as being trained properly its the only way that it can really be prevented from spreading.

SouthArk370Z 10-24-2014 10:53 AM

Good gosh, people. Is Ebola dangerous? Sure it is. But it doesn't take a lot to avoid exposure. It can't survive for long outside of a host so don't come in contact with fresh vomit/blood/feces/&c. I don't know about you, but I already try to avoid such things (even when they aren't fresh).

kenchan 10-24-2014 12:41 PM

i wonder if the racoon that made a pile of crap on my porch last week has ebola... :ugh:

NoLaKrewe 10-24-2014 03:26 PM

Let's be realistic guys, you're at least 7000000x more likely to die in your 370z. You're 5000000x more likely to die for poor dieting. And if you're a man you're prob 9000000x more likely to die from butt hole cancer :X. The only thing Ebola has shown me is that mass hysteria and stupidity go unchecked on social media. That and the media can spread hysteria when they don't Get checked on it

kenchan 10-24-2014 03:30 PM

not for me. my Z is in hibernation.

NoLaKrewe 10-24-2014 03:38 PM

Even with it in hibernation. In a realistic world you're still more likely to die in it. The media sells fear and unfortunately middle America is just uneducated enough to buy ALL of it. They scared white America with Isis but that got boring. So they switched to ebola. Fear sells better then crack to a uneducated mind

UNKNOWN_370 10-25-2014 01:33 PM

If we isolate west Africa, we'll have less control over the situation, when people try to find alternative routes into the USA.

Quarantine for 21 days sucks, but it's the best protocol till we have a better understanding of how to contain this...

That's what the media says, but it's not logical.
How can you get from Africa to America? List the ways.
I can't think of a single 'probable' way without a passport.
If you ban inbound from Africa, and their passport has Africa stamped on it from yesterday, how are they getting in?
