I was at work, working on a project for the Federal Reserve. I had just called my generator parts rep to get a revised selection for the remote radiators that I needed to specify and show on the documents. He says to me, "Did you hear about the plane that crashed into the building in New York?" I responded-thinking he can't be serious, "No, that already happened to the Empire State Building back in the 1930's." "No, seriously Paul, turn on your radio or tv." So I tell him thanks, turn on 98 Rock and the morning show is talking about it.
I decide to go upstairs to our Civil/Structural Department and happen to get to the tv as soon as the second plane hits. Holy crap was that a scary moment - at that point it became clear to me that the attacks were deliberate. The head of our department called a meeting and told us we could go home if we wanted to - most of us that didn't have families or kids yet stayed. I ended up going home that night, and my roommate and I proceeded to get hammered. The weirdest thing was not hearing any airplanes overhead for the next week when all of the planes were grounded. |

Found out about the first impact just as I was getting off the park-n-ride bus in downtown Houston. Jumped on the elevator and rode up to the 25th floor for another dull day at work. Everyone was watching CNN on their PCs when the second one struck. There was a mild panic as everyone packed up and headed for the elevators. Had to catch a ride with someone since I'd ridden the bus. Cell phones were getting "all circuits are busy" messages. The parking garage and surface streets were jammed with everyone trying to get out of dodge.
