Head Shake!
I'm sure I'm not the only one to have this happen to me. I have received this reaction multiple times. The latest happened a few hours ago as I left from work. I was parked behind one of my coworker so we walked each other out to our cars. As we got to our cars she says, "Man I do like your car. It's so pretty!" I told her thanks. She is my baby and smiled. She then asked me how much does the car cost. She first stated 30k? I shook my head no. She grimace and said 27k? I shake no again and point my finger up. She instantly made a serious face and said MORE?? I told her yes, It's MSRP in the low 40's. Her jaw drop, shakes her head, turns and walks back to her car speechless.
This is probably 4th or 5th time I had this head shake reaction. I just smile, jump in my car, off and feel WHOOT!!! Damn my car is sexy! |

Some people aren't very good with their interactions with other people and end up offending them without knowing they did. Case in point above.
If I get a chance, I do explain a bit more context on the cost. It's not an economy fleet car; it's a toy built in Japan and shipped over. When it came out 5-6 years ago, the price was pretty much what it was today, and it beat out other cars in it's class badly enough that it pretty much competed above its price class with things like the Porsche Boxster (non-car people hear Porsche, think pricey, and then kinda "get it"). These days, it's still priced about where its competition is (BMW 3series, STI, base Boxster, Camaro/Mustang/Challenger etc), but has stagnated a bit while all of these other models have had upgrades. Ok, well, the Challenger hasn't....poor thing. But otherwise, it's a sexy toy with a serious motor and performance handling, but also with some comfort features like a GT car so it doesn't completely beat me up. A two-seater for fun and sitting pretty much in the middle of the price wars for fun cars. Also, and my car guy friends do get jealous of this: The women do like this car and react to it. You can't get that from most accessible performance vehicles. |

I don't take offense in there reaction. It just dumbfounds me that people, or some think it is in the lower end sport car. The car looks no where near, "entry level." I have a Nismo, to boot. There army that many of these on the street. Don't the simple fact that this the probally the only "that car" that they ever seen ring a bell price wise?
Its just a funny reaction imo. I don't feel bad, hurt, rich or look down on them. I understand that most, people don't know much about cars to begin with. Just surprise that it happens so often. |
