HD Camcorders

I want to buy an HD Camcorder so you jackasses can watch and hear my FI exhaust in HD... :icon18:

I don't want to break the bank, though, so I'm trying to keep it fairly simple. I'm thinking a Canon HF20 would be fine, and I honestly don't care if I go for a refurb to keep costs down. I even see HG10 refurbs for $399 or so and looking at sample footage it all looks fairly nice.

I'm trying to keep costs below $500.

Thoughts/Suggestions?

If you want sound it is not about if it records in HD, but what sound codec it records the audio in (and how good the microphone is).

If you wanna go HD go with Canon or Sony (best PQ w/o any graininess); Aiptek is POS in my opinion. Also when you mean HD are you trying to go 1080p or 720p?

The lower end ones will do only 720p/1080i...

it is a lower end model...but its ok for what it does...

if you want something with all the bells and whistles than Sony is the way to go...

I know all about the sound... the Canon HF/HG series actually sound very good and are even better with external mics.

I want something quality that I can use for a long while... not some cheap-o crap. :)

And Sony vs. Canon -- seems to me like the Canons are a little better? I lean towards them because that's a brand that I use very often... printers... DSLR... etc.

I have a brand new Sony HDR-SR10 that I paid 750 for that I will sell for 500. Its got a 40Gb hard drive. I only don't like it because it can't handle the G forces of the race track and shuts itself off.

Lol.. I mean cheapie as in lower-priced ones...

I like my Flip Ultra HD. I don't record very much, but when I need to take a short video, the video quality is good, and audio is acceptable. For 200 bucks, I'm quite happy.
