I would find it hard to justify a new car for just 50% of the time, especially since it's being driven in the winter as a "beater" equivalent.

- Go used beater. Really, anything as long as it runs and does what you need.
- If you go new, I'd suggest a quality econocar around $20k that can still be sold in 10 years when you get her up to 150k+ miles as well. Toyota, Honda, whatever lasts a good deal on the inside.

If you can swing new and swing solid at $45k and lower, then get whatever I guess.

I would just then say don't get something sporty or anywhere close to the same category as the Z. Don't make it an agonizing choice which car to drive on a sunny day to work. If it's agonizing, you may as well sell the Z and get the year-round car, ya know?
I agree, except on the beater part. Find the happy medium. Seriously check out the Mazda3 or Mazda6 both in the GT trim. They are cheap slightly used, loaded up, FUN to drive, and good on gas. As you can tell my Daily is a Mazda, with a few bolt ons. Its a hoot to drive. Won't win any races (well maybe it will) but you will find yourself pretending to be a race car driver when the moment presents. Mazda has driving fun nailed down! Slick 6-speed manuals for sure.

If you're in a region that gets snow and inclement weather, why would your other vehicle also be a car? Wouldn't you want something with a little more ground clearance?

Well like I said, I currently have a Honda and it's my daily beater car. I'm about to be 29 so I want something that a teenager doesn't really have or see on a daily. My Z would only be driven on the weekends when I have time. That IS350 sounds like a winner though. I will be buying used but would like to keep it under 22k if possible. The Z car note is under 400 a month so I can swing another 400 (hopefully I'll be paying less) a month if necessary.

Unfortunately, I don't sell cars back to the dealer or to anyone actually. I just give them to family members when I'm tired with them and they're paid off.

Yea I'm located in PA right now but getting stationed to NJ area so I guess the snow will be an issue. The weather this year was just a freak accident though, don't think we'll get the same next year though...

Snow isn't a freak accident. It can happen any year. If one of your cars is a low sports car, having the other be a low sports sedan is a bit counter productive. If I were in your shoes, I'd be looking for one of the 5spd turbo Subaru Foresters. Fun to drive, reliable if you keep up maintenance, AWD and has some ground clearance.

Default Compliment to a 370Z

I was half joking about the Titan but I loooove mine. A crew cab truck is so much more flexible/valuable for me. Whether it's just hauling the kids around, hauling a bunch of cargo, or towing the car to the track. I'd be lost without a good truck.
