Amazon Prime: Price Increase

Amazon Prime will increase in price by $20 (for normal users) starting tomorrow, so today is the last day to sign up at the current $79.

With prime you get 3 main things:
-2 day free shipping
-Movie streaming library (similar to Netflix but has some exclusive deals and shows)
-Amazon book library

The $79 has been going on for almost 10 years so the increase is finally occurring, but along with the increase there are rumors of additional features coming later this year to help sweeten the deal even more, such as streaming music library.

Chuck33079 03-19-2014 09:12 AM

So it's either sign up today or wait and see if they throw in something to sweeten the deal? Hmmm.

reported for spam!!

:icon17: i luvs amazon prime. i dont care about the price increase of $20. i can make that up in one order. get amazon prime visa card too. i get like 50-100+ points every month. that's $50-$100 bucks on purchases. :woot:

At $99 I still think it is a good deal, free shipping if you buy enough is pretty solid.
I think it is an extra 3-4 orders to compensate for the price increase, without factoring in any other services. Another item rumored to be coming is a gaming library with prime (when Amazon releases its roku type device).

See, that's the problem- it justifies another 3-4 orders. "Well, I need to buy this $250 of crap to break even on my prime membership". :rofl2:

Well for us, I do price shopping now and again and order random items from Amazon. Like cat food we buy because it is 5-10 dollars cheaper, sometimes oil is cheaper on Amazon and free shipping is nice.

also remember that you can stream a lot of movies for free on prime, and also stream newer movies at a very good deal.

there are many perks if you check out prime membership. $99 is nothing. i have amazon shipments coming in almost every 2-3 days.

I've cut way back on my Amazon purchases. It used to be every week. Now I just stockpile stuff on my wish list and make a big purchase 3-4 times a year. I'll probably sign up the next time I order something.

:iagree: It's that kind of logic that has the average American in more than $10K credit card debt :shakes head:

However, I know people that just buy stuff off Amazon instead of purchasing locally. They aren't spending any more money because it's stuff they buy regularly. This would be the intelligent way to approach it.

We have Netflix, have had it for many years, and honestly what is on Netflix is on Amazon Prime where the difference is the Amazon specific TV shows mostly.
The pay to stream deals are usually pretty good, but Redbox is cheaper if I remember to stop by on the way home (minus the 30 day wait time).

Yeah, I made a decision to click add to wish list instead of add to cart when drunken browsing. Saves me a fortune. :rofl2:

That is what we do, it comes down to things we buy usually but online it is 5-10 dollars cheaper (sometimes even more), plus the time saved from going to the store or gas used. Also all it takes is a couple day heads up if it is something that wears out, so cat food we buy once the bag is below half empty so when it runs out the other food is already at the door step.

The one thing I will NOT turn on with Amazon is the 1 click option...f a bunch of that. I do not need to be randomly clicking things and hitting add to cart not realizing it is 1 click to buy and it is on the way already....:shakes head:

Good call. It's amazing what ends up at your door when you drink and Amazon at 2am.

This is sound advice.

I was using a friend's laptop one time and 1-clicked him a box of Astroglide Anal Shooters :rofl2:

The next time he rode in our car (Accord Coupe), he stashed several of them in various crevices in the backseat. We're fairly certain there was still one left when we traded the Accord for the Acura we have now :roflpuke2:

I gotta say, I hate Amazon's emails... And their recommendations are ok, but for the most part, I just don't care

ZMan8 03-19-2014 09:46 AM

I think even at 99$ its still a huge bargain if you actually use amazon. (Dont tell amazon this :D ) the shipping alone is probably worth it, but the library of movies is awesome and always expanding. Plus there are always prime exclusive deals that sweeten it.

I'm pretty sure this lawsuit has merit...

They charged me OVER MSRP on something once... No where sold it and I needed it quick... Just pissed me off that after a few months, I saw that the MSRP was lower than what I paid

I tested this on a few items I buy when I heard about it, was logged into my account and on another PC not logged in and pricing was the same. Plus the items I am buying are already cheaper than buying from a local store so I am still saving.

I appreciate Sunday shipping, but I do not appreciate USPS being used more and more...

What did you buy? And was it from amazon or was it one of those companies who sell on amazon and fulfilled by amazon.

yah, one would need to cross shop to get the best deals as you would at a regular store. when i see a fulfilled by amazon or amazon tenant selling something, i always check ebay for the same seller before i make the purchase on amazon.

amazon sometimes has some amazing deals though selling waaay under wat most stores are selling at. the problem is, there is no guarantee how long they will keep the same price.

for example, i bought something at a great deal in the morning, decided i wanted another one, and the price was near 50% higher by noon. :eekdance:

like used car buying, better get on the deal when you see one cause there's no guarantee how long that price or item's going to last. :icon17:
