Default Making my own CF parts... Need help!

I am not sure that i am retarded or not, but here's my problem... I have an old desk at home that i want to use. The surface is all scratched up, so i want to renovate it. I am thinking of wrapping it in CF, and if that succeeds my book case will follow, and other pieces in my bed room.

Everything is perfectly flat and rectangular, so i wont be dealing with weird edges, which is what made me think this is somewhat easy.

The real problem is i do not know where to begin, what the process is, where i can get each of the parts, and what parts, tools are needed and why they're needed. i did some googling of the issue, there's some good stuff out there, but i trust my fellow car forum posters the most...

HERP PREEZ

Oh forgot to mention, i want the final product to be completely matte, not glossy...

There is not much mystery behind CF... but practice does make you better.

You need to buy the actual CF roll, and the resin. put a layer of cf, and then soak it with resin, and then proceed to another layer. When dried, wet sand, and well clear coat if you want it shiny, or use dry CF if you want the matt look. You wont be using a vacum bag so the flat surfaces will be ok, but the sides might be a pain in the a$$ to produce.

or just pm John at spawn Aero, that dude knows it all when it comes to carbon fiber.

Carbon fiber is fairly difficult to work with and pretty expensive,if you dont have much experience with fiberglass I wouldnt experiment. Raw carbon fiber is 50 bucks a yard at least. Also unlike fiberglass it cant be sanded and refinished, it has to be liad right the first time. If you want the look just buy soem carbon fiber vinyl sticker by the yard for cheap feel free to pm me with any questions.

Practice a little first... what speedfreak said is true, its not fiberglass it wont forgive your screw ups.

BME - Brano Meres

that dude built a frame out of CF and goes step by step, it helps to see what you need to do and how to do it.

yah i plan on experimenting with small pieces first. i dont think what i am trying to accomplish is rocket science really since everything is perfectly flat.

if i am to go with vinyl, which was my second option, then i will definitely do a matte black vinyl all over. im willing to experiment a little though.

Chupacabra, thanks for the link!

I've got a roll of CF. Probably not enough to do a desk though.
