kenchan 02-11-2014 02:56 PM

i dont do any surfing or camera taking or anything on it. just listen to music. pandora, itunes, my mp3's. my dedicaded music player. :p

battery lasts a long time too, and i dont drain my droid (mobile phone) battery at all so this is great.

kenchan 02-11-2014 02:59 PM

so i want to buy some donuts on the way home after work on v-day for the wife...

but then that will only get her fat.
i want to be nice, but i dont like my wife fat.

such a dilemma.... :shakes head:

kenchan 02-11-2014 03:01 PM

wife's probably thinking the same thing...

i want to get kensan something fun for his car...
but then he would not come back from the garage.

such a dilemma. :shakes head:

:icon17:

kenchan 02-11-2014 03:02 PM

i think wife and i should get something cool for the kids.
then kids will be in their rooms playing with their new toys and wont come bother us for a few hours.

kids get new toys, wife and i get alone time. that sounds like a win win to me. :ugh:

kenchan 02-11-2014 03:03 PM

all this brain storming makes my head hurt...

jlo370z 02-11-2014 03:07 PM

kenchan 02-11-2014 03:11 PM

would suck if you're on an international flight and just as you cross anchorage you remembered that you forgot to shut off the damn ventilation fan in your bathroom. :icon17: hahaha.

kenchan 02-11-2014 03:23 PM

jlo370z 02-11-2014 03:33 PM

i was thinking of celebrating this hallmark holiday this year. need to pick something up for the lil lady

kenchan 02-11-2014 03:44 PM

the j-version is that girls give guys chocolates and stuff on v-day.
then come march, there is white day where the guys give back to the girls.

not sure why they call it white day? maybe comes from white chocolate opposed to the dark chocolate guys receive? :ugh:

I have recently dipped my toes into the automated systems. We have a Nest thermostat and love it. Auto-away plus I can change the temperature from my phone or tablet in bed!

kenchan 02-11-2014 03:46 PM

its like all the bs holidays they come up with throughout the year for no reason. :ugh:

that's cool. i was thinking about doing the ip thermostat myself. is that ip or is that BT? i keep forgetting. :D

JARblue 02-11-2014 03:49 PM

Nest is Wi-Fi (so IP, I guess?)

cool  yah, ip. i should look into that. my current pre-wifi programmable thermostat has problems with swing anyway.

its too sensitive where it's located on the wall. ive even added a box over the thermostat to isolate it a little and to give some air insulation to keep it from over reacting.

i should just swap out the whole thing. :D

Our old thermostat couldn't even program a separate weekend schedule :ugh2:

The Nest is nice, but it doesn't solve the underlying problem of a poorly designed system. We have a two story house but the stairs are open to the living room. The upstairs is generally scalding and the downstairs is typically freezing :eekdance:

I'm not sure we plan to live there long enough to justify ripping it out for a whole new dual zone system with separate upstairs and downstairs supply. I am, however, beginning to consider putting some dampers in the existing ducts to better control the airflow. The poor access to the ducts will probably make that an expensive endeavor, unfortunately.

yah, our house is like that too and i took a good week or two to mechanically set the vent registers in each of the rooms, and was able to get it pretty balanced. i also found that if you jam a screw into the register's pivot you can make them lock in place.

i dont know in texas do you still have the registers on the ceiling? in my area we have the registers on the floors, so each frikken time i vac'ed over the registers the vent setting would all get messed up. :ugh: with my little screw trick, no more issue with vents moving. :D

i also adjust the intake vents using magnetic vent covers or even just a slip of papertowel taped. works great. :D

Honeywell makes one similar to Nest that is half the price, that does not learn, but can be set to certain parameters. we have it in our shop and is great for raising the heat before we get there.

for television and lighting I recommend getting a logitec remote and ir switches for a cheap way of controlling your lighting.
