It'd be paranoia if we hadn't seen this happen regularly. Wasn't too long ago On-Star (or someone with that service) was caught gathering more information than they led everyone to believe. They stopped, supposedly, but we never did learn what they were doing with it.

Always be wary of public companies whose balance sheets are dominated by revenues related to *you* being the product.

Insurance would likely be interested in getting in on that data. Bad habits = more risk = high rates!

Even automakers would care, as they can see trends and void warranties. Like if you do 12 launches in your car... :)

I'll wait until someone other than Alex Jones and Infowars start talking about this before I get too bent out of shape.

heehee Yeah, not high on my list of reliable sources. But even a blind sow can find an acorn under an oak tree. Vehicle tracking is pretty inevitable for many good reasons; collision-avoidance, traffic re-routing, autonomous vehicles, &c. Given the tendency of the current gobbmint to ignore privacy (and The Constitution in general), I don't think it would be wise to offhandedly dismiss the tinfoil-hat crowd on this one.

Chuck33079 01-06-2014 11:41 AM

Yeah, it could definitely happen. I'm not ruling anything out. Unfortunately, the recent NSA debacle has given the tinfoil hat crowd something to point at and say "see? We were right once". :rofl2:
