brother, I'm white/black and let me tell you, Im ashamed man, its hard being black, when you got these idiots doing this kind of sh1t, and the parents are not doing their jobs, HIV on the rise among blacks, blacks killing blacks its just crazy.
Im in no way shape or form pro any race, but this is what i see with MY race. Its a shame. |
because it's on the news now, it's increasing
It's now in many different parts of our country. Seems to me like some govt. leaders should put a stop to it. Do/say something, because it's not good for anybody.
I'll get in trouble for saying this but is it cause non of them could envision them being their son.... I'm sorry, can't help it...:p All fun aside, this is NOT good, bad for everybody. Will we now have people fearing innocent young people that walk in groups? For MANY reasons this should stop now!!! |

When I was a kid, my father said if I stole, lied, took drugs he'd beat the chit out
of me!!!! I was young, so that really registered.
Many today have no fathers, or just bad parents who don't give a chit. |

This is exactly what I was talking about.
This is not good news. Two (admittedly stupid) kids are dead -- not punished -- dead; a woman who probably never hurt anyone physically before in her life has blood on her hands, and I have a feeling this won't be the end of either the "Knockout Game" or of people getting shot in relation to it (deservedly -- implying actually preventing the murder of an innocent victim -- or not). See further the T. Martin/G. Zimmerman case. My crystal ball says: Expect more beatings, shootings, and as a "bonus", more racial profiling. I would very much like to find out my crystal ball has bad reception... This whole thing -- the stupid game, the shooting -- is just fvcking sad and terrible. Oh, one more thing to consider: Who actually got shot and killed? A kid who threw a punch (dubiously deadly) or a kid dumb enough to be part of the group and only a spectator (not especially deadly). Whether or not anyone figures the kid who threw a punch should be shot dead, what if it was someone just hanging out with them and NOT actually trying to hit anyone who got shot? Two dead kids -- were either of them the ones actually attacking the woman? Or is the public verdict: Guilt by association, so anyone in the group deserved to die? Ok... Lotta interesting comments by readers at that link... |

It is a sad situation all around tho. |

Guilt by association is a view that sometimes leads to just treatment, but frequently does not... It would be nice to presume an innocent life was spared and two would-be killers (or the passive friends of would-be killers?) were stopped and met a just fate, but somehow I just can't see it that way... that feels too optimistic to me. I'll leave it at that. |
"Let not any one pacify his conscience by the delusion that he can do no
harm if he takes no part, and forms no opinion. Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing." -John Stuart Mill Whether you believe the bystanders "innocent" or not, the fact that they did nothing to prevent the premeditated attack makes them no less responisble for the crime. |

short ver. in a panicked situation, she not being trained extensively like leo/military in the heat of the moment may have fired somewhat indiscriminantly into the crowd of youths which were threatening her. While she may have not hit the actual ones who were, she prevented them from further attacking and if you associate with criminals esp while they engage in criminal behavior, expect to get what you get. No sympathy from me in that regard. Yes, they're kids and kids sometimes do dumb sh!t but there are always consequences, and sometime you are lucky enough to say man when I was young I did xyz and it was dumb, other times you're dead. IF more parents got involved in their kids lives and didn't view children as a right instead of a privilidge and responsibility, I think it would go a long way. |
I thought maybe moderators were locking this thread or something :icon17:
By that rationale, anyone nearby who saw the whole thing -- and stayed out of it -- would be equally deserving of death. So we're back to trying to look on the "bright side" of it... In other news: Apparently it's a hoax?!? Trending Political News from Around the Web an-shooting-2-knockout-game-players-seems-to-be-a-hoax-n1751708 Well, that's a happy ending, I guess. sadly yes, personally do not like firearms, I view them as a necessary evil and a tool, like hammer etc. wish we could go back to the good ol days of asswhoopings and settling things like men with your fists/fee/knees/elbows etc and not resorting to guns but that ship has sailed. |

In the good old days people disemboweled and beheaded each other with bronze swords. Then came iron and so on. Those were indeed simpler times... Quote:
I mean, assuming that all actually happened (allegedly, it has not yet been verified...) there will be an investigation of some sort, but if two kids who knew nothing and were in the wrong place at the wrong time got gunned down, it's kind of a done deal. Anyway, hopefully it was a hoax... I'm sure we'll know by tomorrow. Did you read the story of the kid with the taser getting shot in the butt? Stupid kid with taser lives and gets arrested; victim of taser manages to wound, but not murder stupid kid. Assuming this one's not a hoax, it's an urban crime story we can all enjoy :icon17: EDIT: Wow -- a LOT of anger and racism from random posters on that Michigan news link :ugh: |
I did read the taser story. I love stories ending in stupidity being a painful lesson. :rofl2:

Here's why I feel that way. Even a 3 yo can kill someone with a gun, basically anyone can kill/hurt someone with a gun, it's too easy. It takes physical brawn to wield a sword, war hammer, ax etc. And you have to do it up close and personal so effort and commitment is required to kill. It takes little to no effort with a gun and it's very easy to pull a trigger. but like I said, that ship has sailed. edit: I suppose I should clarify better times regarding man's ability/technology for making war etc, not everything since obviously we live pretty well and easily compared to our ancestors/forefathers. |

I'm also not a big fan of "wild west" based theories of achieving peace. I only meant to suggest that guns aren't like other tools or appliances -- not trying to give you a hard time or anything -- and I think we are very much on the same page here -- I just think its important to explicitly not think of guns as approximately equivalent to hammers, knives, cars, toasters, etc. I'd also like to think the relevant ship hasn't sailed, although, to be sure, there's nothing waiting at the dock at the moment. EDIT: Oh, and yeah, sorry for the garbled initial reply -- I was careless in trying to partition my various replies... I ended up with a less wonky re-post just below the first one. |
