Drinking Poll

So I was thinking about drinking but I am home alone. And it got me thinking what other people consider "drinking alone" because I think everyone has their own opinions on this and what better crowd to poll that on here. So what do you consider "drinking alone?"

NickTurnon 11-13-2013 06:40 PM

I don't drink very often, but when I do. 50% of the time I am alone.

I always enjoy a small glass of scotch or whiskey when I write a big paper. I also like drinking beers while I clean the house or do artwork etc..

I guess that can be seen as unhealthy, but sometimes its relaxing and I don't really go overboard.

If you're getting pissed drunk by yourself often, you may have some issues.

Chuck33079 11-13-2013 07:09 PM

I don't usually drink during the week at all. A scotch or two Thursday night at most. The weekend is another story. Ill usually stick to beer when I'm by myself, but I don't usually put a limit on quantity.

Z-Girl 12 11-13-2013 07:12 PM

Happy hour every wednesday night, 3 apple martini's and 1 vodka/cranberry. It's my midweek excitement. I never drink alone though...

SS_Firehawk 11-13-2013 07:28 PM

I drink all the time alone... I work out of town. I usually stick to beer when im just drinking and eating. I do enjoy a Dark n Stormy, Captain black n Ginger ale (regular cap works too... or any good rum), crown n cokes, and hard to pass up a good mojito if a place makes em right.

Waiz 11-13-2013 07:34 PM

Mmmm-Dos Equis

Chuck33079 11-13-2013 08:32 PM

I still don't know why they have him drinking the green. If he were really the most interesting man in the world, he'd be drinking the amber.

Waiz 11-13-2013 10:10 PM

Green is my choice, I think that is their better seller too ;)

To me, the Lager represents a beer that can be consumed all day long. Whether you are playing on the beach, or drinking at the club. The amber is definitely a taste that doesn't appeal to everyone for everyday consumption. Not only that, but I don't really want to drink an Amber at 10AM on the beach in Cabo.

The Lager accounts for 70% of their sales, so thats why The Most Interesting Man drinks those.

"This year, for the first time, a few spots will run for Dos Equis Amber, a dark lager that accounts for about 30% of brand sales. "They say having a dark side will lead to no good. I certainly hope so," the Man says in one ad."

Drinking Poll

I wouldn't use sales to determine quality. There's a lot of coors light sold, and no one in their right mind considers it good beer.

I drink a lot of it, but its still crap domestic light beer.

andre12031948 11-13-2013 10:29 PM

I drink a little vodka

Just to help me swallow all those different colored pills. :yum:

Haha who said anything about quality? I am just saying that they are pushing the Green because more people buy the green more often then the Amber.

Most of my friends hate on Coors Light, but then drink Bud Light.. which to me tastes like 1/2 Coors Light & 1/2 Water.

If you want quality, I am a fan of Delirium Tremens. If you've never tried it, do so. Belgian Beer w/Caramel twist. So delicious.. But $$$.

Yardhouse won't let you do the half yard of it because the Alcohol content.. :shakes head:

That Delirium Tremens sounds good. Next time I'm at yard house I'll see if they have it. It might be a regional thing but hopefully not.

Chuck33079 11-13-2013 10:41 PM

Delirium tremens will **** you up beyond belief. I love Belgians, but its not the stuff you break out when you're planning a long day of drinking.

LOL Fact.

It's around $8.50 for a chalace of it at yardhouse. Its sorta one and done though. I mean I've gotten a solid buzz off one.

It's $11.99 at your local Total Wine/ BevMo for a 16oz bottle. (2 glasses or so)

I usually just drink the whole bottle myself.

They also have a darker beer.. Delerium Noel.. I haven't tried it yet though

Ryguy 11-13-2013 10:56 PM

Well this beer sounds like it holds up to its name. Wikipedia says "Delirium tremens (Latin for "shaking frenzy", also referred to as The DTs, "the horrors", or "the shakes") is an acute episode of delirium that is usually caused by withdrawal from alcohol, first described in 1813."

I like my whiskey so I drink alone all the time. Same way I don't have a problem going to a fast food place, bar, or restaurant by myself at the last minute. You don't need someone to ride in your Z every time you take it to the track, do you? Anyway, I enjoy my drink and do what I want while at home, but I make it a point to not get obliterated during school nights. Weekends are a different story though.

Mr&Mrs 11-14-2013 11:15 AM

I do not have fun drinking alone and I do not need it to unwind or relax. Actually for me it's the complete opposite. I do it to unleash every once in a while from being so proper and responsible all the F'ing time.

So for me if I started having a few drinks alone multiple times a week I would probably be on the verge of some kind of depression.

ka24king 11-14-2013 11:17 AM

i dont think i have eve drank alone now that i think about it.

Chuck33079 11-14-2013 11:19 AM

It happens pretty often for me on weekends. Go out in the garage and mess with the car, have a few beers. Work in the yard, have another few beers. Football game is on, andother couple. By the time you know what hit you, you've put down an 18 pack. :rofl2:

dtul 11-14-2013 03:00 PM

I normally have a beer or two after a long day of work or if I've had a lot of tests or something. I never get drunk alone though. I don't really have a problem with people doing that, I'm just not a big drinker so even in social settings I normally only get a little buzzed, if that even.

I don't drink at all, but maybe I should start. A little.

:iagree: nothing wrong with a nice cold brewsky after work.

Jordo! 11-14-2013 04:13 PM

It doesn't matter. Have a ******* drink.

Whether alone or in public, people drink to reduce their anxiety, lift their spirits, short-circuit their ability or tendency to focus too deeply on anything; to avoid ruminating over or remembering that which is best not dwelled on too much.

When you are drinking, the world exists mainly in the moment.

It's probably about equally likely to be just as sad or as merry, as meaningful or as meaningless, regardless of the company.

If you are serious about your drinking, the only company that really matters is the one in the bottle, flask, or glass. All else is just a distraction anyway.

XiP 11-14-2013 04:15 PM

if my dog is beside me when i'm drinking does that count as alone?

Speaking of pets and animals and drinks, when my wife was little, she would walk the goat (yup). That's after they make it drink some good brew. Once she finished walking the goat, off it went to be bbq'd. After that, it's like thanksgiving.

As for drinking, I love a good bottle of wine or gin martini with friends or by myself, it does not matter. I get filled to the throat when I drink beer so I stay away from it for the most part.

nmjaxx9 11-18-2013 11:10 PM

:bowrofl:

Wait people drink alone? kinda sad. :rofl2:

ElVee 11-19-2013 08:43 AM

I drink alone far more regularly than I drink with someone else (probably on the order of 95 of 100 instances). We probably need to first define what "drinking" is before making judgements. For instance, I've never been drunk, but I certainly drink more than any of my coworkers or friends. And I don't consider myself to be "drinking with someone else" if I'm at a bar that has other customers, but I'm not interacting with any of them.

A beer at night is not a bad thing. I do like to try new things, but I have some comfort brews that I go to for extra relaxation/enjoyment or maybe even some nostalgia (Sam Adams Cherry Wheat will always hold a special place in my fridge). I'll go 6 months with a beer every 2-3 days, and then 6 months with none.

I like wine, but I don't know as much as I'd like about it. So I do make it a point to purchase and try out wine as I can. A glass of wine with or after dinner can be very enjoyable.

I also like liquor, but again am not as widely knowledgeable about it as I'd like to be, so I do also try to have a drink regularly of something new. For this, I'm talking whiskey, scotch, rum, cognac, brandy, and other things you can drink alone.

To continue the trend, the same goes for cocktails and mixed drinks. When growing up, I basically got the same old thing any time I went out. I still feel like a college kid when I order without some adventure or imagination, so I make it a point to try out new drinks when I am out somewhere, and make new ones when I have the time at home. This is usually one glass, though maybe two depending on the ingredients (I hate to waste extra lime juice or let simple syrup sit too long).

I have no problem drinking alone, as long as you're not doing so to regularly get drunk or deaden some other pain/emotional problem that you have.

Yeah, there's a big difference between "man, that was a bitch of a day. I'll have a Scotch or two" and "my life sucks and I'm going to down a bottle of vodka".
