i had to google this because i forgot the exact quote, but here's something someone (probably googled) and sent to me one time:
Do not overrate what you have received, nor envy others. He who envies others does not obtain peace of mind. |

I agree all that matters is being happy. I was happy when I made a quarter of what I make now. Appreciate what you have earned for yourself, in the long run you will be better off. I like to use people more wealthy than myself as motivation. Now I am also a realist and know I will never own a Lamborghini without hitting the lotto and I don't play the lotto so I'm SOL haha!

I have a friend who's dream car is a 458 Italia. It's reasonable for him to expect the means to acquire one in the next few years, given his career trajectory, so it is a real aspirational goal he has his heart set on. Unfortunately for him, he sours when he sees other young(er) presumptively less deserving acquaintances pick up his dream car first.
I can't wrap my head around why a smart driven person would let someone else's purchases or success make him unhappy, especially when he's in a perfectly enviable situation himself. Whenever some event makes me feel envious, I try to distill the objective change from before said event to the present... usually it's nothing material. When I recognize that, the envy melts away. As for kids getting corvettes.. he's (or his parents, whatever) just one more purchaser convincing auto manufacturers to keep making legitimate performance packages. It's a good thing for all of us. |

Ummmmm, nope. I don't give a rats a$$ what other rich kid drives. I'm enjoying mine. My neighbor got himself a Cayman vert and I said to myself, you go bro, have fun with your oil change. I figured, mine looks say better rolling down the street or on the driveway. Stop worrying about others bro.

Rich Asian kids all over the place... Getting work done on my car, and I constantly see them pull up.. 18 - 20+ year olds driving AMGs, Porches, GTRs, etc.. Just dropping money like it was nothing... But it all comes down to how you look at it... If you're purchasing just to please others then you will never be happy... Its like modding.. it never ends! But if you get because you always wanted one, then like Alcheng said, it just feels nice to see your blood and sweat sitting on your drive way being all sexy that you wanna touch it, caress it, stare at it..... Uhm.. err.. I'm getting a little carried away.. But you know what I mean... |

Had a pastor once who mentioned something very wise about contentment: "Contentment is wanting what you already have." That was over 20 years ago, and I've never forgotten that.
