People think because they wear a suit and tie they are special or privileged when really your only paying more for yor work cloths!

Around here we have management on salary that have to dress the part mean while they are only making half of what us dirty construction/contractors/electricians do! Ummm 50-70k or 100+ (the plus can be huge depends on how much OT you want to work!) I'll take the dirty labourous job with the better pay

I almost always wear slacks and a dress shirt. I only wear suits when necessary and typically never wear jeans to work even though we can some days. Just preference. Blue collar work can definitely pay well no doubt. Just not my thing.

it has nothing to do with being privileged.. its about wearing a suit, and feeling great. I love the way I feel when i am in a suit..

you and me both, I dont have any issues with wearing a suit, its all good. And most women loike a guy in a suit (for us single guys)

I would venture to guess that most people tend to button them from the top button down (I know I do) - hence the term "button down"

However, the term "button up" may stem from the term dress up vs dress down.

Maybe a button down shirt is one with patterns that is informal when compared to a solid white button up shirt that goes with a suit.

No, it's not. It's cool for the first week or so. Then it sucks, and dry cleaning adds up. Plus, wearing a suit and tie in the summer in Houston is a recipe for swampass.
