Something Scary to Think About
A kid was driving 80+ mph in Pleasanton, CA and hit a woman on a bicycle and killed her while trying to pass another car. Her husband was badly injured too. The cops initially charged him with vehicular manslaughter but decided to up the charges to murder after they discovered some tweets where he'd been bragging about driving 140 and offering to take his friends on a "death ride".
The clear warning for those of us who come here is to be careful what you write. I can think of one bay area member who journals about his adventures passing people on wet foggy Marin County roads in near darkness. If I got in a serious accident I wouldn't want those words to come back and ruin my life. I wonder if there's a way the administrators could take comments like those down if requested. Like my momma always told me, don't put nothin' in writing that could come back to hurt you. Or somethin' like that. Well, if you're driving around like an idiot and hurt someone, you get what you deserve.

I would implore moderators NOT take those comments down. If you've just killed someone due to recklessness then you need to be put away. And if you're dumb enough to brag about it on the internet then I hope it does bite you in the ***.

hard lesson learned but there are consequences to our actions. reminds me to think twice before behaving like an idiot on public roads. Not fair to take innocent peoples lives for a few seconds of 'fun'

Admins should not take those posts down after the fact as that may be viewed as tampering with evidence. That idiot who took someone's life or those idiots that are planning on doing something stupid and announces it, should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Just think if this was your wife or daughter, would you want the admins hiding evidence? |

My point in the OP was that we need to think about what we write in a public forum. Once it's on the Internet it NEVER goes away. And, for sure, the cops are going to look into it. And lawyers too. I'm not for covering up anything. Just be smart. I was thinking along the lines of somebody gets in a serious accident. It may or may not be your fault. But in this digital world we live in things you wrote years ago WILL come back to bite you in the arse.

So you are suggesting that the mods take down posts like that to protect dumbass drivers that drives recklessly and brags about them on the internet?
That is probably the dumbest advice you can give, this post should have been a warning to all the reckless drivers out there and that incident is the prime example of why you shouldnt drive like a dumbass. Not "make sure you dont brag about driving like a dumbass on the internet" |

I KNOW a lot of us don't exactly obey laws regarding speed... But if you're doing it in an OVERLY moronic fashion and way and place... AND you brag about it... As JaeDub said, eye for an eye!
