After three weeks of inticipation, i went to the doc today and bad news
Lets start by saying my teenage and early twenties have now came back to bite me in the a%%. I did everything possible to abuse my body from racing motorcross semi-pro, mountain biking and anything else we could do to end up in the hospital. I have chronic pain in my hips for roughly 13 years now and every doc i went to said there's nothing you can do.
I don't race anymore but i still live a fairly active life of mountain biking, running, working out and walking my dogs. I found this doctor who works on alot of the local pro athlete's around the area. After a 2.5 hour doctor's visit today he told me that both hips are preety much shot and that you will need both hips replaced by the time you are 40, if? He told me i have to make a life changing descision today or i will see you in here next year for the opperation, i asked What are you talking about? Stop running, biking, and no more long walks with the dogs. Your cartlage or whatever that surrounds the ball of the hips is gone and there are spurs in four different areas, and the more you do the more i'm going to damage it. So what do i do? Stop doing what i luv and become some fat A%% couch potato or continue to do what i luv till i can't walk no more and then have the surgery and surrender to a life of doing not a dam% thing. I'm not in a good mood at all, this sucks

I'd stop doing the things you like. The fact is, you're better off not doing those things but being able to walk than having a bitch of a time walking. You know how you never realize how much you use your thumb until you sprain it. Well, no one is going to want to be realizing that the rest of their life when it comes to just walking. Just my .02

a hip surgery does not mean you cant do anything anymore.
at times it will be a pain in the ***, but its not the end of the world - my my had two hip surgeries and she gets along just fine. She just has to be careful every now and then. |

IMHO, your story, and your signature quote pretty much add up. It's clear you broadcast your decision, however the fear of the unknown keeps you hesitant to what choice to make. Think back to those times when you were racing and you thought abou passing the guy in front of you, you had a 50/50 shot to make it, or to bite the dust... What did you do then? If you listened to your gut, it probably led you to the right choice. Which I'm sure it will again.
Personally, if I were in this situation (and cost wasn't an issue lol) I'd just have them swap the damn thing out with a Titanium joint and be done with it. I can do Whatever I want, and walk away. lol

An inactive life with just lead to obesity and obesity-related illnesses anyway, so you may as well just get the thing replaced. Sorry about your luck though mate.

Continue to lead as active a lifestyle as you can. Then, in a few years if it is worse and the pain is stopping you or limiting the activity, do a replacement. With the advancements they are making in artificial joint replacement, in a few years you might find you get the surgery, and once healed, go back to an active life.

Find a doctor (who is optimistic about the after results) to do the replacement surgery when you are ready to do it. Dont't settle for the negative attitude.
