I voted to wait for consumer reviews, just because I feel there is still a lot to be explained and fully understood regarding used games, xbox tv control, etc.

I might actually pick up a used PS3 for the bluray player and free online gaming. I currently have a 360, and let my Live Gold subscription cancel this past March. I'm 24, married, focused on my career and getting my CPA. Unfortunately I simply don't have the time anymore. When I do play, I'm still playing Madden '11, Forza III, and Halo3. Sure, $60/year isn't a ton, but when I'm playing online for maybe 3 or 4 weeks in the year? Not worth it anymore.

Does anyone know if PS3 online gaming will still be free?

After Xbox pulled the junk they did, im going back to PS this next console. I pre ordered 7 systems total 3/4 of each. I plan to sell em all right before launch and get a console in the spring because none of the launch games are worth while for me. The only game I liked on Xbox was the Titansfall but that will be on PC and Sony after a year. I have a gaming rig now and was a PC gamer for along long time so Ill just play it there. I am just not gonna put up with a money crazy company. If i like your product I will buy it and spend money on games. I also love to rent games from redbox and will borrow games etc like we were kids. Therefore I went PS for my final choice.

I've been with xbox live now for over 10 years and plan on staying with xbox. I'm never playing single player so Online is where its at for me and xbox has been the leader in online gaming forever now...although the PS4 is tempting....I'll continue my long stay with Microsoft.

Thanks for confirming that, I had no idea. I guess on the flip side Playstation Plus lets you download many games for free

That is not what this thread is about??? Just so this doesnt turn into a PC vs Console war though, we all know PC trumps any console that has or ever will be built.

I love PC's and built a new rig every 1-2 years for 10 years now. It isnt a hobby anymore though to expensive since I do not use them for what I build them for (gaming). I choose not to game on a PC for personal reasons. Mostly because of hackers/cheaters/xploiters. They are way out of control over the PC platform. Also because staying on the cutting edge of PC technology, and getting the most out of PC games, would require me to build/rebuild rigs more often than I do.

Also I love the fact that Console Developers leave alot on the table and find ways to improve years down the road. Heck look at Xbox 360/PS3 release titles and games over the years. They got better and better! To this day developers are finding more power and different techniques to get the most out of the equipment. And guess what? I never once had to spend another dime on that.

PC developers want to use the cutting edge technology (dont blame them) and that causes me to upgrade my rig, with my taste, and I imagine alot of others taste on this forum, sets you back quite a few of those dimes.

Back on Topic!

Sorry for your luck with your Xbox(s) they did have their hiccups. I was lucky and all three of my 360s never skipped a beat. Nor did my last original until I sold it a few years ago (Halo Edition Man I miss that thing!).

I agree 100% with their attitude/approach to the customers.

I feel you on the time to play! I do not know about the PS3 being free or not for online multiplayer. I just use mine for Console specific titles offline, and Blu-Ray movies.

Since I will probably (if not already) miss the chance to preorder I may have to buy one or two from you so I do not have to wait in a line! Dont rip me off to bad though It will never be as good as the profit I mad on the PS2 years ago my dad and I got a total of 9 and sold them all for 2k + that was awesome. I guess if one of the ships sink it could happen again

Im kind of on the same boat as you, but the PS4 is tempting me way more, enough that I made this thread! I would have never even entertained the idea in the past.

Live Gold is going to allow a certain amount of free games a month now as well. No problem on the confusion I hope this thread can clear all of that out of the way for us consumers that may have heard false information.

We all want to make an informed (correctly) decision!

I am sure I will stick with Playstation just because I have a loyalty to Them. I still have my Playstation, my PS 2 as well as my PS3.

To be fair the title of the thread say "Next Gen Gaming Systems" not "Next Gen Gaming Consoles" so I felt that PCs where viable. And to continue being fair going PC and playing games typically means going with microsoft as well but at least there is starting to be some support on the other OS. And I'm done being off topic.

If I buy a console I'll have to wait for more information. Microsoft doesn't exactly have that great of a track record with their hardware and I still have a sour taste in my mouth from when Sony took away the boot to another OS option. I would definitely buy the PS4 if I had no history or preconceived notions about either company and based my choice off just the consoles themselves.

I currently have both (360/PS3), but I lean towards Xbox because of their games, namely Halo. If PS4 comes out with with some awesome new games, then I would probably get it too. With both systems being as good as they are, to me it just comes down to the quality of their games.

Fair enough in my defense though I do not consider a PC a gaming system because they do so much more. Lets face it, you can build one just for gaming but they are multi taskers and we all use them for more than gaming. Then again the consoles are now trying to do to much of thie "multi tasking" and frankly it pisses me off.

I feel like im being spammed with ads every time I turn on one of my systems and see all the garbage pop up, facebook, twitter, netflix, hulu, etc. Everything I own is preloaded with that junk! I want an online gaming system and thats it!!!!! Man where did that come from....lol

I voted for xbox one for now.

My background is of Nintendo in the early days, then sharing time with PC gaming, skipping the Wii, loving xbox360, and passing on the ps3. I passed on the ps3 because it gathered dust in all my friends' places whereas the xbox360 got used. I do consider myself an off-and-on-again core gamer, if you use those terms.

I'll give the PS4 consideration, but at the end of the day, I likely only have time and interest enough to give to one console, not two. I'll probably simply flow to where the most core gamers flow to.

The PS3 doesn't do it because it was difficult/expensive to develop for, so it never really had quite the library for its first 3/4 of life that the xbox360 had and lacked good online support. The PS4 needs to change that and start out strong in North America. Sony lost money on the PS3. It's been a huge uphill battle for them, and not one they win in North America. They trounce the xbox360 though in other markets, particularly Asia. It'll be interesting. Clearly having the best specs is not the key; the Wii outsold everyone (despite being a borderline failure to gamers) and had the worst specs. The PS3 has always been ahead on a purely device technical level (minus the Move/Kinect comparo), but if you can't court the core gamers and have a quality library with key system features that match or beat the competition, you will still struggle. The Wii got by because it courted a different market, but it's not a sustainable market unlike the core gamer market.

The good thing in all of this is that 3 platforms (plus PC and Mobile/Handhelds) went into this last generation and 3 platforms survived and are emerging for the next round. Competition is good.

Im a bit undecided when it comes to the new systems. Ive owned both a 360 and PS3 and theres the give and takes with both. With the new PS4 and Xbox one I feel its the same way again. I personally feel Microsoft has always had better servers and for the most part better exclusive game titles. Where as gaming online with the PS3 has been both great and horrible and they too have some good exclusive titles but thats my own experiences and opinion of course. I guess the give and take is that ones free and ones paid for as far online gaming services go. So go figure where more server up keep is going to go towards. With the new xbox one Im not too big on their second hand games tactics from what Ive seen and read. I think alot of people share games or sell games to buddies and for them to pretty much crush that market really sucks. I did read that Microsoft is suppose to being doing a free game a month for "Gold" memberships not sure how true it is. Either way Im looking forward to trying both systems and seeing how they rank against eachother but i personally think the PS4 will stay as the focal system with consumers and the xbox one might find itself posted alot on Craigslist. just my

Again for people that are not reading all the posts the PS4 will require a PSPlus membership to play games online. It is no longer free.

I'll just upgrade my GPU for $500 instead. Don't have to worry about backwards compatibility, lack of launch games, subscriptions to play on the internets, a graphics ceiling, and I can do 3 monitors. I'd rather wait for the dust to settle. I bought a Wii back in 2009, it's not used very often. I used to be a big console gamer, but after replacing six PS2's, no thanks. I've never had a pc part fail unless I did something stupid. My brother replaced two Xbox 360's, I don't have much faith in the durability of consoles anymore. Why is it all the Nintendo needs is someone's hot @ss breath blowing on it? Super Nintendo still works, N64 still works, Gamecube still works. Dreamcast still works. If I would choose only one? PS4 would take my money. $500 and DRM is rough. Not only that but their cloud computing to increase performance does sound like a great idea, it forces the console to always be online for games that deem it necessary. Better have a 100+mb connection because now you'll hear family members bjtch because your F'n Xbox is stealing all the bandwidth to play your game.
