I'm an air traffic controller and you are correct. Most airports have a co-located Vortac/Tacan. We get a fair number of military practice approaches that use the Tacan. Some of them don't even have VHF radios!

Learn the important ones now! PHP, Ruby, etc... Those in combination with PERL and Javascript, you'll be in business! (Forget the Micro$oft languages... That's going to be a dead company soon and those languages will be left behind.) Cool to see another language savvy person on the board!
