^^^ Voodoo Child is probably my all time favorite, but really, there is no bad Hendrix.
"...I'm standing next to a mountain, I chop it down with the edge of my hand..." Fuuuuuuck. Yes. To be the "voodoo child". The mind boggles... I actually know someone who doesn't like Jimi Hendrix. Can't get into him. Just can't -- doesn't like it, doesn't get it. That person is a fucking moron. It's a tragedy. Otherwise, this is a pretty bright gal. But in this particular instance, staggeringly dumb. What can ya do? :shakes head: Anyway, tonight I was listening to the amazing genius that is Steve one-two-fuck-you Albini... Behold. Like, seriously, a whole era of terrible music floundered pitifully trying to do this kind of music (notable near misses: Skinny Puppy, Ministry, after they unfortunately reinvented themselves...). Other than Jay Reatard's utterly amazing Terrorvisions album (which he referred to as "electro-punk" if memory serves), I find most bands who try to make thise kind of racket ("Industrial"?) to be a bunch of pretentious poseurs (I'm talking to YOU Maynard J. Keenan, you twat). I'll take noise/grindcore/undefinable mess (e.g., Napalm Death, Doom, Melt Banana, et al) any day over that shit. Trent's okay, tho'. I give him and NIN a general pass (for whatever my stupid opinions are worth. Not much, I suppose....) |
got james taylor's new one in the mail, tester. and, reordered an old, early fave from the 60's: mason william's great, thou brief, "phonograph record"...smiling faces...

I'm listening to my WV hill-billie co-worker boring me to death with his NO-STOP chatter. I need ear-plugs and ear-muffs! Maybe some duct-tape, and a pair of old socks too!!!

NB: If you like Iggy Pop, beware the somewhat recently Bowie re-mastered version of Raw Power. He absolutely murdered that album. Part of the amazing energy in that whole album due to the discordances, distortion, and odd blending of instruments -- and Bowie took all of that out. He even removed the xylophone from "Penetration", which was very unusual, distinctive, and created a neat contrast to what is otherwise a very gritty and passionate song. But, Bowie is immortal, and a demigod of some sort (and possibly the supreme ruler of the Guild of Calamitous Intent), so I suppose I have to just let it go... ************************************************** ******************** Ah, the B-52's... what a cool, crazy band. If you haven't heard it before, find Peter Griffin's cover of Rock Lobster -- hilarious :rofl2: I think there's a variation on that of his called "Iraq Lobster" too :icon17: Although Peter's all-time best song has gotta be "Cowboy Butt-Sex" :rofl2: |
