Started with a Canon 300D and then upgraded to 30D. I checked out the 50D at Ritz and was really impressed. Im a Canon nut hugger I guess because I never used a Nikon. I hear great things about them though.

I personally think you should go with Canon. I've worked with tons of profesional photographers and about 90% of them use Canon over Nikon. Plus I don't really like Nikon's photo processor I think it make a lot of things look really fake. Plus for price it seems like Canon always give you more. |

When your buying an SLR your not just buying the camera, your buying into its range of lenses and other accessories. So you should make certain that the brand you buy has the lenses you want and at the price you want. The lenses will easily cost more than the camera so this is only a small part of purchase.

First of all, Nikon vs. Canon is pointless. They both make great camera systems. The real choice when starting out is really who makes the lenses you like best, then go with that manufacturers body. To me, Nikons "feel" better in my hand. On top of that, I have many lenses that I have acquired over the years, that I can still use on my digital Nikon bodies, so I have stuck with Nikon. As to "Nikon's photo processor making things look really fake" I'd have to ask you what the heck you are talking about? If anything, Canon places more "default" processing on a captured image, not Nikon! The way the camera comes out of the camera depends on a multitude of in camera settings. I personally shoot raw and leave the processing to post exposure.

Started with Canon XTi, bought a T1i if I had the extra cash at the time I would have purchased a Nikon D90.

5D cru holla
![]() can't go wrong with either side really OP, however, from everything i've read the D90 is a better, more entry user friendly camera compared to the D5000, even tho they do basically the same thing, have basically the same specs, the D90 is set up to be easier to get better pictures starting out. also i've heard the image quality is a little superior. but this is just what i've read on the forums. for what it's worth a good used D200 nikon or 30D canon will take you really far. it's more about the lenses than the body. as long as it has the features you want (live view, video, etc). also, try them out in person at a best buy or camera store nearby. if you are still on the fence you can rent a camera body and lens from lensrentals.com from each brand to decide but that would get pretty pricey...
