what is your choice of slr camera
so whats everyones choice of slr camera i was thinking of buying one and i was thinking of the new nikon 5000. what have u guys been using?
|
Started with a Canon 300D and then upgraded to 30D. I checked out the 50D at Ritz and was really impressed. Im a Canon nut hugger I guess because I never used a Nikon. I hear great things about them though.
|
i like nikon cause thats there specialty they only make cameras

Have you cruised any SLR forums? Or better yet go down to a Ritz camera and play with a few? |
Love my canon. Takes sharper pictures than anything I've owned.
|
i have the canon 50D
but you probably know its all about the lenses thats where they make their money :D |
Started with Canon XTi, bought a T1i if I had the extra cash at the time I would have purchased a Nikon D90.
|
Canon 5D. Can't beat a full frame sensor.

I use a Nikon D40 and it's a pretty good entry point shoot camera.

I personally think you should go with Canon. I've worked with tons of profesional photographers and about 90% of them use Canon over Nikon. Plus I don't really like Nikon's photo processor I think it make a lot of things look really fake. Plus for price it seems like Canon always give you more. |
When your buying an SLR your not just buying the camera, your buying into its range of lenses and other accessories. So you should make certain that the brand you buy has the lenses you want and at the price you want. The lenses will easily cost more than the camera so this is only a small part of purchase.

Canon Rebel is my choice my father has a nice Nikon and he says that he wished he had gotten the canon because there is just to much stuff with the Nikon.
|
I use a Canon Rebel EOS XSi. Its a great DSLR with a lot of capabilities.

can't go wrong with either side really OP, however, from everything i've read the D90 is a better, more entry user friendly camera compared to the D5000, even tho they do basically the same thing, have basically the same specs, the D90 is set up to be easier to get better pictures starting out. also i've heard the image quality is a little superior. but this is just what i've read on the forums. for what it's worth a good used D200 nikon or 30D canon will take you really far. it's more about the lenses than the body. as long as it has the features you want (live view, video, etc). also, try them out in person at a best buy or camera store nearby. if you are still on the fence you can rent a camera body and lens from lensrentals.com from each brand to decide but that would get pretty pricey... |
I think you get more for your money with the canon that is just me.
|
lol i think everyone on the forum uses canon
|
what about the new t1i any comment

So confuse there's so many choices I'm interested in the 2 new camera D5000 and t1i just cause I like new but the d90 is alot better and it's a mid lvl slr not like the other to is for beginner. Plus it should be under 1000 for me cause Ima get 15 percent off for applying for a credit card well I mean my wife is gonna get 15 I got my 15 when I bought my big screen hehe
|
But the difference is price about 400 lol that 400 could buy me an intake

another really good site is Digital Camera Reviews and News: Digital Photography Review: Forums, Glossary, FAQ they have very through reviews, pretty unbiased as well, of all major cameras and eve some of the obscure ones. i too think you get more for your money with canon usually, especially lenses. seems like canon's lenses tend to be about 10-20% less than their nikon counterparts usually... not always but most of the time and that helps
|
Nikon D50 here. As stated you should research lenses, not just the camera. I will challenge any of these Canon boys to a bargain lens duel. My f1.8 50mm versus whatever you got in the price range.

the nikkor 50 f/1.8 is $129: Nikon | Normal AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D Autofocus Lens | 2137 | B&H as i said earlier, nikon glass is usually a little bit more expensive for the comparable thing in canon but i will say that from what i've seen, nikon glass is better on the low end (such as these thrifty fifty's) than canon's stuff, but L-glass makes up for it:tup: |
I'm looking at picking up my first DSLR in about a week or so... I'd like to go with the Canon XSi but the wife is limiting me money-wise.
How is the Rebel XS in your guy's opinion? It's more in the range of what she's letting me spend. I checked out the Nikon D40 (or 40D, can't remember) but didn't like the fact that it doesn't come with auto focus (and I don't have the money right now to buy another lens). |
imo, the D40 is a very limiting camera and should avoided unless the buyer intends to only use it as it is and not intend to buy more glass down the road. the XS and XSi however can use all of canon's lenses (with AF) which is nice, plus they are kitting them with the 18-55 IS lens which isn't a bad thing either. it's not the best lens in the world but it's not bad either
|
+1 for canons
|
So pretty much the XS kit is worth the ~$500 then?
|
yes
|
w3rd... thanks.
