Which version of Photoshop do you guys recommend? No sense shooting in RAW if I'm not gonna use it, lol.

your camera box should have a cd in it with a disc that has canon digital professional or something like that which has a fairly robust raw converter. as for photoshop, i use CS3 and it does what i need it to do. being a beginner tho, i recommend lightroom, it's easier for people that don't know photoshop and i think it's where the industry is heading. i'd just on the bandwagon of LR if i wasn't embedded in PS

I shoot with a Canon 20D a 30D and a 50D. Very good bodies each and every one. The 50 is newer with better technology.
Now all my lenses are a different story. But you asked about a camera. BTW.. it's not so much about the camera body itself but experimenting with different lenses, getting some proficiency with a photoshop program and practic practice practice. Personally, I would just start with a simple class on the functions of an DSLR at your local camera store. Last edited by KillerBee370; 07-28-2009 at 06:10 PM. |

The only thing that I dont like about Canon is they still use the CF cards, where Nikon I believe uses SD cards that you can plug right into nearly any laptop.

Secure Digital cards are a lot smaller than CF cards. They have a 9 pin interface rather than a 50 pin interface as on the CF card. This limits them to a 4-bit data transfer bus where the CF card has a 16-bit data transfer bus. This makes their maximum possible transfer speed slower. However, having said all that, I don't think it would make that much difference with most of the consumer or prosumer cameras, in some of the pro SLR's like the Canon 1D it does as these cameras would take advantage of the extra speed.

Are they SLR's? My point/shoot Canons use SD but not my 300d or 30d, gotta break out the USB cable or CF adapter.

First of all, Nikon vs. Canon is pointless. They both make great camera systems. The real choice when starting out is really who makes the lenses you like best, then go with that manufacturers body. To me, Nikons "feel" better in my hand. On top of that, I have many lenses that I have acquired over the years, that I can still use on my digital Nikon bodies, so I have stuck with Nikon. As to "Nikon's photo processor making things look really fake" I'd have to ask you what the heck you are talking about? If anything, Canon places more "default" processing on a captured image, not Nikon! The way the camera comes out of the camera depends on a multitude of in camera settings. I personally shoot raw and leave the processing to post exposure.
