Heat shrinking connections.
Aircraft wires get soldered...autos get heat shrink.

I might be just messing around with 'em and making a decision, but yeah the purchase would likely be online. I'll just have the time to do it in the evenings while up there.

I think one of the things that's a nice feature on the D5100 is the sliding switch that changes from still shots to video. It's more convenient than twisting the mode dial on the T3i.

When I'm not testing or half-a$$ing an install, I typically solder the wires together and then heatshrink them

I have always soldered any splice. Though, I haven't had to do much, or any, splicing in putting anything in the dash previously.

Still, !

I think that's the problem. When I click on the URL it's to the mobile site, then the browser doesn't know how to interpret the address, because it's not a mobile device.

So, since it's up on your YouTube page already, if you browse to it on your PC you should be able to grab that "Share" URL and post it here.
When I opened up the page on a computer, there was a link at the top for either Mobile or Desktop.
Click the Desktop link and it looks like YouTube normally does on a computer.

My inspection was near the house, so I came home for lunch. And now that I'm done with that, I will be going back to the office barefoot

I haven't yet used the video feature on my dslr. Most of the time that's where my phone/gopro come in. especially since both of those take 1080P video as well.

So nice to drive the Z to work today without the wife next to me going "OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!"

Of course I was driving at or below the speed limit while maintaining a proper following distance, using my turn signals, and not accelerating rapidly or making any unsafe lane changes, as always.
