C'était un rendez-vous

I had never seen this or heard of it before, although I'm sure some have. A film director in 1976 strapped a 35mm camera on the front of his car and basically did his best to break every traffic law imaginable in Paris at pretty extreme risk to himself and everyone else around him, then released the video and got arrested for it :)

Read the wikipedia link below for the background info and specifics, etc:

C'était un rendez-vous - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And then watch this for 8 minutes (for those of you retards who didn't bother to read the link, this is raw, uncut footage, done in a single take, and there were no spotters or blocked off intersections (well there was one spotter at one place in the film, but apparently his radio was broken anyways)):

Dude! I love crazy driving and all, but he really came close to not only hitting cars, but pedestrians.

wstar 07-17-2009 02:15 AM

I'm not getting into the judgement stuff on how crazy it is. Obviously, this video is way outside the boundaries of safety and sanity. It's a pretty unique video though. I lost count of all the red lights he blew through. It's sort of like someone videotaping a live session of russian roulette where nobody died (but this is more fun to watch).

At 6:31, he could have only missed that chick by a foot or two

 wow! Crazy video! 6.9L V8 286 hp (213 kW) with 405 ft·lbf (549 N·m) of torque SCREAMED the whole way!

Those tires had amazing grip IMO. This video did remind me of the RUN which was the "legal" version with 350z. I wonder if they took the idea from this video ..

at least he slowed down to go around the garbage truck :driving:

smurfblu13 07-17-2009 02:44 AM

yea thats what started the present day ones. I forget what they are called but one is an e46 m3 that is supercharged going and doing the same thing. I'll see if I can dig it up. But props on getting the original I haven't seen the complete one before.

Perhaps this is nothing more than a new form of "pigeon control"?

smurfblu13 07-17-2009 02:53 AM

Based on some research Ive done this seems likely. There were some rumors that the driver/director was in fact driving his Jaguar and dubbed the sounds over, and that he only got a ticket not arrested. One side says this and one side says that so I dont know wtf is true or not. Pretty classic clip though.

What a bloody fool - a couple of years in prison might help him.

This video was the inspiration for the Getaway in Stockholm series.

Great post.

The important part is now that I've seen most of Paris, I just save a bunch of money on the plane tickets!
