For me, Nissan just called and they are replacing both fuel level sending units. This means they keep the car overnight -- oh well. They keep it inside the shop, at least.

I think it is a known issue with the sending units and nothing to do with how much gas one puts in the tank. I could rarely get the last LED to illuminate and I could drive for more than 100 miles (highway) before the fuel gauge dots began disappearing. No big deal -- it's a warranty thing and I am working from home today and tomorrow anyway.

Sweet. We used to call cars that had cheap/junk/glue-n mods "JC Whitney Mobiles".

I don't think it has anything to do with the amount of gas in the tank, I keep mine full most of the time. I had heard it might have something to do with the type of gas. I'm not buying that either. The tech that worked on my car said it was common for Nissans to have this issue. He saw it on Altima and Maxima frequently.

Yes, there are two panels behind the seats that pop out. I pulled the passenger side one when I was replacing the fuel pump. Very easy, you just need to be careful when removing it that you don't bend the floating arm, level indicator.

Thanks for the input. It makes me feel better that they do not have to do crazy stuff like drop the tank to get to the sending units.
