Ever since God invented the device called a "clutch", the transmission is not engaged as you shift --- how fast you are able to shift between gears has no impact n the tranny, as long as the clutch is fully engaged. I can ask my son, Mr. Badwrench, if you want me to go into more detail. I might be incorrect, but it's unlikely given my track record.
Yea yea yea...we know all about your track record

I'm not 100% certain about the effects of the engine heat on a painted strut bar. I do know forum members have done it themselves with good results. Long term, not sure.

Can you remove it yourself? I would bet yes. It requires removing 8 nuts and two plastic cowl pieces. I would make sure the plastic is somewhat warm before prying on them. Plastic tends to break easier when cold.

OK -- Colin says this:

Hello Mr. Alcheng!!! He also said that both you and I are right. People with short-shifters tend to shift hard, thus potentially impacting tranny longevity in a negative way. The short-shifter itself poses little prove-able difficulties.

I have one (B&M) and I love it:

yah, most folks buy short throws to cut down on the shift throw time which usually means they are jamming the syncro's to work harder...thus wearing them out faster.

if one's just shifting normally (just to enjoy the shorter throw) it makes no difference in the wear.
for me, i just buy a shorter weighted knob to shorten the stroke. not the same as a real short throw, but it's still shorter throw.
