or, take your HDD to a friend, back up the data, and then reformat?

I usually don't need the hammer until I am removing the hard drive from the external enclosure. And duct tape only if I put the drive back together

Hola!
I have a glass block window in my bathroom and a working bathtub. It's gonna be a good weekend. Hope all y'all are doing well, you're in my thoughts if you're not in my web browser. |

I should add that in the past 10 years or so, I have worked on about 15 failed external hard drives given to me by various friends. About 25% of the time, the drive is recoverable in some fashion, though only once was I able to leave the drive in the enclosure. I always recommend a NAS (Network Attached Storage) running a RAID 1 or 5 with reliable enterprise-level hard drives with 5 yr warranty. Two of my friends EACH had four external drives fail before they finally broke down and had me build a RAID 5 NAS for them.

Are you taking a bath while you post this? Great to hear everything is finished and you're enjoying your bathroom

There was an issue with the window. The glass block manufacturer changed their "diamond" pattern to a new pattern which is almost completely transparent rather than the prismatic type of pattern it had before. Like, I could have charged admission to watch my wife shower behind this. So we found a local company that would build the window in-place and he actually had the right blocks ready to go. They did that yesterday. My guy has been waiting on that window to finish out the durock in the shower and tile it. He's got most of the floor tiled, new ceiling fan/light, etc so it's coming along, but that damn window was a big hold-up. But... I can at least take a bath in there, and I don't have to thumb tack a trash bag to the window frame every night. |

And I forgot to add... The fact that it's almost Z-weather is a good part of my positive attitude. Yeah, it's going to rain and even have a little snow this weekend but temps are on the up-swing into the 40's/50's so if we get a couple of good rains I can start getting my baby out for an occasional drive!
