The Moose Tree photo was aquired off EBAY with a bunch of other pictures. Most of the others were from the Shenandoah Valley, Virginia, so there is a good chance the Moose Tree is or was located there.

I can only imagine what hunters may have seen it and been like, "what the hell?"

I purchased a slide collection off EBAY to get some cave pictures that were included in the collection. Among the other slides was the Moose Tree, and that is about all I know about it.

Haha thats awesome, what cave are the pictures from? Lurray (sp?) is right around that area right? As well as a few others that are slipping my mind. Been to I think 3 or so in that general area. But I've just been to the tourist ones, I don't know if that is what you're talking about or not though lol.

I just got back from a road trip to the Shenandoah Valley. Visited Grand Caverns, and have been to Luray, Endless and Shenandoah Caverns. I also have done some "wild caving" in the vicinity of New Market and Mt. Jackson.

That is so awesome. So how do you find a cave that hasn't been explored and get into it to be able to see these formations. On another note how trained/experienced must you be to do this?

If you are interested in learning more about wild cave exploring, I suggest visiting the website of the National Speleological Society, the national cave exploring organization.

Sounds good, rep for you for good info too. I'll have to check that website out. I don't know why but the phrase wild cave makes me laugh, I think of the cave as an animal every time.

I believe the term wild cave is used simply to differentiate the experience from a tourist cave. If you like adventure, and seeing things you've never seen before, then request info from the N.S.S.
