Staying in good health
So I am 21 years old i weight 276 and I have began exercise and all to lose my total goal of 65 pounds. I have noticed that my joints ace a lot even after a few days of rest. I am considering taking something called osti biflex, to help keep my joints in good working order. Is this a good idea or should I just take a vitamin to help? I drink plenty of water and soda is almost completely out of the picture "maybe 2 sodas per week". I also am trying to eat better as well. Chines food is my biggest weakness.

Well uh, you forgot to mention your height.
Just gain muscle, and that muscle will burn more energy to work just by being there, and as you do exercise, you'll progressively burn more weight. Drop soda completely. It has to be done. If you absolutely need the flavor, go for something flavored, like Propel or similar. If you need the carbonation (a friend of mine drank soda because of the acidic bite that carbonation gives), drink sparkling water, or a sugar free sparkling drink (they're not bad really). I'm guessing all your joints hurt? It's probably because you're just not used to it, but be sure to take in all the needed vitamins and minerals for a day, and lots of calcium. You can never have too much calcium. You can, however, get too much iron, which will lead to stones in organs, and they're likely not very fun. Other than that, good luck, and you're on your way to a better quality of life. |
No i do not need to drink soda it is just when my friend and I go to the movie theater we split a drink but I usually try to sneak a bottle of water in. I also sneak in a think of peanuts they curve my apatite and also are good for you except the fat but better than the snacks at the theater and all. I am 6ft 3 inches tall.

I don't know how your town is set up, but if walking is an option, try that.
A friend of mine got home last night from spending the last seven months in Argentina. There, one walks everywhere. I was struck by how much weight she'd lost. Before, she was a (to be liberal) chunky girl. Now, she's fit &, in the areas that matter, thin. We asked her what she'd done & she told us just having walked everywhere was to thank. |

LOL I am in the middle of no were, like the closest place to me to even eat is 3 miles, for a theater or a mall it is 20 miles to get there, that probably will not work out for me.

Good thing you're taller. It should not be hard at all to build muscle on a frame like that! Okay, so that's fine, I understand that. Drinking water in general will actually cause you to lose weight (I forget exactly how, water is wonderful). Peanuts are a good choice. As long as you're not eating a can a day, it's fine. They have certain oils and proteins that make you feel more satisfied.
You might actually stop losing weight at around 230-250, depending on how much muscle you want to build versus just losing weight. Walking is indeed a great way to do it. You'll feel sore, of course, but you'll get used to it. I am a high school track runner, but I'm pretty big, so I get shin splints, painful. I run though, not walk. You should consider doing weight work if you have the time. Actually, walking and weight lifting both take lots of time. EDIT: Try biking, if you can. |
Eat lots of fresh fruit and veggies, no salad dressing, toppings, nothing. Fibers make you sh&t easy, and this is a way to clean your system out. Cut down on animal products i.e. meats for protein. But fish is OK, but not all fish is good for your health. Meat, especially red meat, isn't really good for your diet because it has cholesterol, i.e. clogs up your heart overtime. All meats have cholesterol, but red meat is the worst. It's OK to eat meat occassionally, but not often. You need meat for protein, that is, to build and maintain muscle. But if you don't work out, this protein will turn into fat.
Drink lots of water, this also cleans out your system. If you do aerobic exercise, then you need carbs. Carbs provide energy for endurance e.g. long distance running, swimming and the likes. But carbs are sugars. Likewise to protein, if you don't work out or aren't physically active, then carbs will turn you flabby. |
Hell, anything will turn into flab if you don't use it.

Well I do not know why your saying they acke so much I do not work out that hard I mean yesterday I played volley ball for a few hours and all. It has been a few weeks scenes I have been to the gym. I am only asking for my joints about that ostio biflex stuff.

I agree with what others have posted re hitting some weights in addition to cardio to lose weight. Muscle burns fat. Biking is good too and less hard on your joints than running. |
I have the same issue, and im only 155lbs. I used to run track and CC all the time in HS, but now im only 25 years old, yet just last month I tried running 2 miles (been a while), and my right knee is giving off a weird ache that I never had before.

Glutamine will help with the soreness and will aide recovery.

Glucosamine and chondroitin can help, but need to be taken regularly for a decent amount of time to feel any benefits. Fish oil can also assist in joint pain.
If you drop weight though, that should be the biggest benefit to your joints and pain. |
hey in case anyone still has any questions about this.. i did lots of schooling in these subjects because nutrition, physical, and mental health are very important to me.
but the best advice ive ever gotten was from an annoying lil skinny kid with amazing genes and an amazing ego. he lived his life eating strange foods whenever he wanted to, working out when he wanted to, and pretty much lived his life how we wanted to, and it worked for him and i know this cuz he was a track star, cross country star, and a soccer star, and i critizied him one day on his eating habits and recommended "maybe you shouldnt eat that" and he replied to me in a very cocky way "what works for u doesnt work for me" and its stuck to me since. so look u can try this supplement and u can do this exercise and u can change ur diet this way.. but in the end the best thing u can do is just experiment, ur body is completely different to the next guy, so maybe u can eat 3 steaks and lose weight while another guy drinks 5 gallons of water and loses weight. the point im trying to make is, learn, and experiment with what u think works for u. for me my diet and exercise plan is fairly simple, and im happy with it and i feel very healthy. monday through saturday i wake up at 4 and i exercise to build a high amount of sweat, for about 2 hours, running, sports, swimming, weight lifting, what ever can have me breathing hard and work a good sweat. i stay away from all supplements and eating full big meals, instead i eat 5 to 6 times a day. then sunday i use a relaxation day and i eat all the fatty foods i want. my pig out day. and its been working out for me perfectly. |

osteo biflex
im 6'4". 38 yrs. I have been a regular gym rat for years. mostly to stay in shape and to be able to take my shirt off without disgust. I started having joint problems in my knees about a year ago. I stopped running and now walk on a treadmill w/incline raised a bit. I also started osteo, its not a complete cure but I definately dont have the problems I did before. Use it man, It works. you need a cheat day too. Sunday I eat good!
