I really think its a cultural thing. I really think its a west coast/ west side of the country thing. I dont know more than 5 people that dont have a tattoo. I do believe the way you present them or dont is a bigger tell of the persons station in life I was 19 and thought it was cool. I was wrong |

Something like the ones I have... not so much.. we tend to get them if we go to foreign countries, after deployments etc... not really trashy and usually mean something... at least amongst my group of friends. Quote:

lol, probably true about being here in Oklahoma.. I was in the Navy and the big thing was to go get a tattoo after bootcamp/school etc. These dudes were getting the dumbest looking most douchebaggery (is that a word) anchors etc etc. I just laughed at them. Whatever.

WOW, how can some one really think "white trash" all because of a tattoo(s)? They create difference and customization to one's body! I understand how some people feel that way...LIKE MY GRANDMOTHER..but we are now in a generation where things have changed and " to each their own"...regardless, I don't mind negativity or jealousy for that matter..that makes me happier for who I am..just because I can get under someones skin for, simply, my tattoos! haha I don't take offense to that comment but I just HAD to say something since I am a female with 18 tattoos and 8 piercings

Shark Pit (sharkpittattoo) on Twitter
Thanks for telling me how my life will be in the future because of one of my tattoos. Your story is no different from any other site that has put the picture up. I'd like to say that getting tattooed for some is a lifestyle, I don't drink alcohol or do drugs that inhibit my thought process by the way. It's a funny tattoo, plain and simple. I'm an odd person I guess. I'm well educated, creative and successful in life. I put thought into every tattoo I get. It just bums me out that people really think I would regret or become embarrassed in certain situations because of my tattoos. I love that it's talked about, so follow my twitter page for my pit if you'd like to find more links. In the future please also think about what you are writing about people, I have seen some horrible tattoos in my time believe me, but come on, my tattoo artist is insanely talented and the tattoo is well done. I get sent links like this all the time and am amused by it...keep your eye out for my spread in Inked Magazine too. BTW I look like **** in that picture! here.... |

Regardless of the quality of the tattoo or whether or not it's really her posting... that had to hurt like a bitch. I am fully sleeved and when I was getting tattooed CLOSE to my arm pit, I felt like crying like a little girl. I couldn't even imagine the pain of getting work done on the actual pit... holy crap.

The west coast seems to have better artists, and alot more people who will put alot more thought and creativity into their choice in ink work. It's also just more popular and socially acceptable IMO. I have full sleeves and whenever I step out of California people look at me like im ten seconds from cutting their throat and taking their wallet. I don't exactly have the friendliest looking tattoo's but you would think people could tell the difference between a good tattoo artist and something you would recieve in prison. I think the shark armpit is good work and a creative concept. Other than that it dosn't really do it for me. It shouldn't be included in the regret list mainly because of it's location on the body. The only time someone might get a good gaze at that would most likely be during sex...then you get the nice suprise of a shark...with a crying baby in it's moulth. A tattoo someone would regret is one you have to look at everyday in the mirror and have people look at you like your a complete failure to society. Sorry for the rant. These are just my opinions and does not apply in all cases. ...and by the way, can we please stop calling tattoo's "tats". I don't know about you guys but this word is generally used by someone with little to no tattoo work who is trying to sound "cool" and it makes me want to punch babies |

I can easily see this woman settling down, getting married, and having a few kids. Kids who will inevitably ask their Mother what the deal is with the grotesque tattoo covering her armpit. Now you or anyone else try and say that none of this is correct. OP could have said it a lot more indelicately, but many of us thought his insights were perceptive and on the money. You can say all you like about being educated and successful, but if you move in average middle class circles like many of us do, the thing with the kids and the soccer moms will be inevitable - not "if" but "when". You'll understand then... Otherwise, I don't think OP was criticising you or your choices (and neither am I for that matter) - it's a free country for you to make those choices. And if you choose to publicly display the fruits of those choices, then expect the freedom of others to voice their opinions (right or wrong as they may be - they're just opinions). Off my soapbox and back to our regular program... |
