Any tips for tonsillectomies???

So, 7AM on the 24th they were removed. At 11AM, felt ok, went with my pops to Costco, had a hot dog. No real complaints. Chewed a lot, and the doctors said, as long as you can keep it down and it doesn't hurt too much, and it's not sharp food (like chips) eat whatever you want.

24th at night, ate whatever I wanted essentially, yes there was discomfort, but it didn't stop me from eating the roast, potatoes, or Mac n cheese, drank as much (liquid) as I could

25th, a but more pain, but nothing liquid lortab couldn't help with... Ate a nice big plate of teriyaki chicken, plenty of fluids... Pain became a bit worse, radiated to my ears a bit... Had more lortab, crap load of Popsicles... Cool, ate some dinner, no real issues

26th, today, woke up in a bit more pain, (sleeping with my mouth open, which causes the throat to be dry) got up, did some stuff, had another Costco hot dog, no problems really, got home, ate some more, and half way through, I called it quits... The pain was REALLY kicking in, hurt like a SOB to swallow
Popsicles ain't helping much... Ice pack isn't helping much...
AND I just finished my bottle of pain killers...

So I call out to anyone who KNOWS, what should I do???
I get a lot of BS info online like no ice cream, then you get another report saying the Mayo Clinic says dairy has nothing to do with mucus build up...

Right now I'm slowly but surely eating some ramen...

:tiphat: Thanks a lot in advance guys for any info!

Best advice... Call your doctor and run through whats happening with him. Most of the time they won't need you to come into the office and can either prescribe something over the phone or give you the dietary advice you need.

i had them up till about 19 years of age, and got them removed with health insurance.
the tonsillectomies swollen up when it absorbs bacteria/virus so you get a real high temp fever. honestly, there is nothing much you can do when they get big and ugly.

Good you got them removed and shaved some weight wherever possible. Faster in the twisties!

GL on your health.

This has gotta be the worst god damn surgery to get...

Little update, 2 nights ago, I was out, coughed really hard, and oh shít, I taste blood...

Ended up ingesting a bit more than a pint of blood and spitting out over a pint before I could get into surgery... (They had to do a stomach pump)

So now, I'm rehealing from day 1, with a bit different instructions.
I can have dairy, no straw, no sucking on popsicles (didn't only chewed), but no real food until 2 weeks... So... Yeahhhh...

And it's a bítch to swallow anything more than half a teaspoon because it hurts and comes out my nose, LOL

That's a problem with removing tonsils as one gets older - you bleed. Badly sometimes. It's a bit unusual to have your tonsils removed as an adult. I still have mine at the ripe old age of 53. I imagine they're pretty rotten by now. :) Get better man.

I feel your pain. Had mine removed last year as a 43 year old. There's no way to describe how uncomfortable the recovery is. My advice, don't eat food you have to chew. Honestly, I had an occasional milk shake, mashed potatoes, jello, and ice chips. Lost of few pounds in the process. Good luck and stop eating the hot dogs for now.

Yeahhhhh...

After going into surgery again... I'm only having pain killers and popsicles...

But last night I got sooooo thirsty, but I can't drink a damn thing... It hurts too much...
I almost cried because of the pain and inability to quench my thirst...

Thanks brother!

I got some WAYYYYY better pain killers and I was finally able to drink more than 1/2 a teaspoon of liquid

Anyways, happy new year to all of you, stay safe, and please don't drink and drive!
