GTR or R8 V10?

Hey everyone,

Next month I'll be in Vegas and I'll have the opportunity to drive either a 2012 GTR or an R8 V10 on a track for a few laps. :driving:

I can't decide which to go for, and I have to reserve one beforehand. Any feedback? Any body driven the two? (Lucky SOBs...)

Thanks!

For show off and and ladies, R8 Hands down..

For real car and track, GTR without a doubt

:iagree: that's a good argument.

Soley track use !?.

I think I would be blown away by the Nissan GT-R on a track more so than the Audi R8. For a day or two or touring the state or country. I'd go with a manual trans. Audi R8.

Why not both? Im assuming your going to the exotics racing place. Went there last year....drove a lambo superlagerra and the porche 911. Well whatever u decide make sure u purchase plenty of laps. That track is pretty small and when ur driving that fast it goes by quick! Id recommend taking the passenger ride on the porche as well.....that dude drives crazy fast. They dont let you push the cars that hard....liability issues. Either way......HAVE FUN!

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I was leaning GTR, but I felt like an R8 is so far out of my reach it might be cool just to say I drove one. I think I'll have more fun in the GTR though. I wanted to go for more track time over a more exotic car. (Yeah, at Exotics Racing in LV.)

If money was no object I'd be in the 458 all day, or maybe the Aventador. I didn't want to go for the Porsche because I'll be at a race track, not a Starbucks. And as someone who's never been IN a Porsche, let alone driven one, I feel I'm qualified to make that judgment.

Haha yea its pretty awesome seeing the lineup of cars they got. Just make sure u purchase plenty of laps....like 6 minimum. Im telling you those laps will go fast. Haha enjoy!!

I personally would take the GTR, not to burst your bubble but whats the chances you will buy a GTR in real life as well? :icon17: Just saying not that it couldnt happen. But think about that one.

Also Porsches can hang with the big bois too, especially if its a 911 Turbo S. :yum:

Yes, If I had less than a day in "any" exotic car, I think I'd like to try a V12 engined Ferrari. The new F12 Berlinetta.:driving:

Depends, will there be any ladies spectating? :D

RonZwanson 12-27-2012 07:02 AM

Yeah, I'm doing 7 laps in the GTR. As far as ever owning one, I've got it all mapped out:

My wife and I don't plan on having kids any time soon. If we do, I'll have to sell the Z. GTR is the logical choice. Brand loyalty discount, four seats, all wheel drive (which isn't available on any other Nissan "sedan", and it's good for snow, right?), legitimate trunk, automatic. Totally sensible, mom-friendly car. After we buy the car, we just auction off the kid to cover the insurance. Done. Everyone wins. No baby puke or juice spilled all over the back seat.

Yeah, I know Porsches are great machines, they've just never really been my speed. If someone threw me a key I wouldn't turn it down though. Even the new Boxster is supposed to be fantastic, but Porsche won't let it maximize its potential because they don't want to cannibalize 911 sales.

The only female who would potentially be observing would be my wife, and she couldn't really care less what a car is all about. She'll probably stand there with her ears covered.

When we started dating she drove a 2000 Golf, and after about a year I asked her when the last time was she changed her oil. She had no idea. It had been at least several months since before we started dating. "My dad used to just do that stuff for me." :shakes head:

if you are renting these cars, they will most likely be the "automatic" versions (i'm talking about the R8 here, obviously all GTR's come with the dual clutch trans). i have heard the automated manual in the R8 is simply atrocious. for that reason alone, the GTR would win my vote... not to mention it's faster and will probably be more fun to drive :)

Well said :iagree:.

It all depends on your thirst and history with Nissan. For me, GT-R hands down because I have a lot of weakness for the GT-R and Nissan. But someone who doesn't feel the same way or do not have that history or weakness for Nissan, may go with Audi R8.

You're 100% correct Patrick. The older Auto Transmissions were horrible in the R8. However, for 2014, it's a whole different ball game :driving:
