sounds good, mr. jar. i seriously doubt my Z will ever see 60K miles while i own her.

But seriously though, what would make it not need changing, wouldn't it have the same wear/characteristics as an engine or manual tranny? Which do require fluid changes at some point?

materials they used, engineering, and expensive oils maybe? not sure, but if nissan requires no changing i would just leave it.

maybe change it at 100k miles if it worries you.

I don't know the answer to your questions, but if you search for a guy that tried to change his 370Z AT, you will find a nightmare story about how it screwed up a bunch of stuff

I'm surprised they haven't expanded it to other types of oil then? For the MT guys, I wonder does the DCT in the GT-R have the same stuff? Or does it get swapped?

I think if I didn't know better, I'd try to have it changed @ 50k. But meh. Only time I'd really consider it is when I'd upgrade the AT for boost.

I think there is a thread around here about it. I don't remember him saying it caused problems, but I would image so if done improperly...

Only thing I remember is a picture showing the fluid and it was nasty... He said he was at 3Xk mi though...

I believe BMW has MT with lifetime tranny fluids like the Z AT. As I mentioned, even the Z MT doesn't explicitly have a change interval for the fluid - just says inspect at every 15K mile interval.

I wouldn't mess with it if I were you... Nissan doesn't try to hide the fact that you don't have to service the AT fluid. There are warnings in the manual about it.

Now that you mention it... there were some other things screwy about that change. I just don't remember any other information or example of someone changing the AT fluid.

Fair enough. It's just interesting, as much as they say Don't do it, I would think that could be something they could use as an advertising push for the 7AT's.

Interesting, I'll have to dig around and see if I can find that thread.

From Search:

AT Fluid Change Nightmare

Cliff Notes: Horrible Dealer, not problem with tranny. Fluid change done.

Transmission problem (?) after a transmission fluid change

Cliff Notes: Bad Dealer, system most likely not filled correctly.

7AT fluid change

Cliff Notes: Successful Tranny Change

His Fluid (Upside Down):

( Click to show/hide )

As with most other things, it seems to be possible, but based on the procedure done. If done properly, no problems. If improperly done, you'll hate life.

I wonder if when doing AT upgrades, does GTM just drain/save/refill fluids, or do they dump and put in new fluids?
