the home and heathcare nurse is here with Joey right now, he seems to be very tired, falling asleep. he is dehydrated because he cant drink anything and so right now we are doing everything we can to help him

bro, not to be cold and cynical, but if he said that, and he is in pain, let him go...
dealing with a lot of dying and dead people you tend to notice things, and when a patient/person is/has been fighting for so long, and are in so much pain, when they realize it's time to go, it' usually isn't long after that...
it's selfish to wish for them to stay long, suffering in true pain just so you can stave off the emotional hurt of losing them
