Quitting smoking
I've been weening myself off tobacco for a little over a week now using Blu e-cigs. I have to say 2 things.
1. Food is DELICIOUS and smells great. 15 years of smoking and now my senses of taste and smell are coming back. 2. I don't like that I'm starting to really enjoy the e-cig's taste. I mean I really enjoy the wild cherry. I might move to non-nicotine flavoring after a month or so. The reason I'm weening is because I'm just about ready to quit, and I'm getting the Z shortly and don't want to have nicotine withdrawals while driving and after a while 'justify' smoking in this car like I did the GS-R, Protege5, and the Civic. 'Just this one time' quickly turns into 'one more time won't hurt' than onto 'I've already smoked, I'll just make certain to keep the windows all the way down' to not really caring anymore. That's my 2 cents on e-cigs. /Also, Stephen Dorff says I'm an adult, and I should take back my freedom Last edited by CDepp; 12-16-2012 at 07:58 AM. |

Good luck

Honestly brah weening doesnt work. I had been smoking for about the same time frame and tried numerous times "weening". Never works and I have never met anyone that has made it work that way. Only way I have seen is just to cold turkey. Suxs but after the third week the anger issues start to dimish a bit but you still crave for almost 2 months, then those start to go away too. But even 3 years later I still get a craving here and there. But now drinking and eating I never feel the need to smoke afterwards.
I have kinda become a foodie to a degree since my taste buds have remerged. |

Oh and be sure to honestly let your coworkers, family, and significant other that you are trying to quit and that you hope they understand for the next month or 2 you may be a little off your game. You may not even realize how you are coming off to people when you are into it several weeks and your friends and family think you are being a random douche, but if they are already aware ahead of it they will be totally understanding and supportive of the situation. Also applogizes go a long way after being a douche too, even if they are expecting it.
Something I learned during it and I am sure you have heard it sometime or another regarding the need to having something between your finger and no pun intended but something in your mouth, but I use to take a few bags of random veggies to snack on (helps drastically since most will resort to snacking alot and put on 20-30 pounds but veggies are pretty much zero cals and healthy), and also tried to find flavored tooth picks. I found some that were really minty and also some cinnamon ones. For almost 6 months you would never see me without a toothpic hanging out the corner of my mouth. Worked great. Once I hit the beginning of the second month I got really withdrawn to a degree from socializing (even with my GF and even she commented on it many months later), but after a few weeks I got back into going out and being around the social scene where smoking is prevalent and wasnt bothered and even talking more. Its tough but only way is to say f-it and man up. I kept telling myself that if someone else can do it I damn sure can too. Good luck brah Last edited by Japanjay; 12-16-2012 at 12:31 AM. |

I quit cold turkey 17 years ago after smoking 1 1/2 packs of menthol a daily for seven years. I just woke up one day during a particularly bad cold, lit a cig..it tasted like shyte, so i put it out and decided that was it for me.
The only lapse I had was one deep sea fishing trip in which I started drinking the moment I stepped foot on the boat 'til we hit shore again some 10 hours later.i musta bummed two packs worth of smokes throughout the day!! You can do it. Just set your mind to it, and be done with it.

I quit for several years by tapering off. Started at 1 cigarette every 30 minutes. If I missed by more than 10-15 minutes, I made myself wait until the next period was up. After a few days I went to 45 minutes. By the time I got to six hours (changing every 3-4 weeks by then), withdrawal was much easier. Once I quit, if the craving got particularly bad, I would chew a piece of gum until it cried for mercy. YMMV
If the e-cigs don't work out for you, try reading up on the various 12-step programs (AA, NarcAnon, &c). You might find something that helps. I can see where having a "sponsor" (someone to call when cravings are real bad) might help. Good luck, again.

In my family 3 people have tried to quit using ecigs. 2 have been successful first try, one failed. In my mini-micro-survey, that makes them the most successful smoking cessation program of all time.

Ditto, I wasn't able to quit until I finally just quit cold turkey. He's right though about the first 2-3 weeks and I basically refused to go anywhere with my friends who smoke until about 2 months of being off until I knew I could be around the smoke and be able to resist having one myself. |
