Need a help from those with accident experience.
So a few weeks ago my girlfriends 2004 Pathfinder was side swiped by the elderly in the middle of an intersection, no witnesses, cops said its a Florida "No fault". Ok then....
Fast forward to today... She just got her estimate and they cut her a check for $2030, with her $1000 deductible taken out. Seems pretty clear and straight forward. What we are confused about is why the check is written to both my girlfriend AND Nissan Motor Acceptance Corp?! Progressive said Nissan is required to sign off on the check. Is it just because she is still making payments and technically Nissan "owns" the vehicle? I fail to see why Nissan is even involved in this at all. I don't have experience with insurance companies so please no smart a55 remarks. Asking a serious question here. Is this normal procedure? This is just going to drag out how it takes to get her Pathfinder fixed.

that's odd. i had a leased car a while a go which was hit by a ups truck and my insurance just gave me a check made out to me. and ups's insurance sent me a check to cover the deductible.
i would check with nissan (or the institution lending your gf money) to see what they say. your insurance should just cut your gf a check and the old woman's insurance send your gf a $1000 check to cover your gf' deductible. |

When I had my last accident (was my own fault so my insurance company was paying for it) IIRC they had my mom's name (she's the registered owner of the car) and the name of the body shop on the check. The check was being paid out to the body shop that was repairing my car, but my mom had to sign the check before they could cash it.

Standard procedure. Since she is still making payments, they cut the check to both the financier and the financed.
It's more important in a situation where the car might be totaled. If you had a loan on a vehicle, they totaled it and only paid the check to you, then the finance company wouldn't get their money. |
