Here's some pictures from today's project. The reason I even did this was because the spoiler was struck by a large rock which cartwheeled up the spoiler (bad marring and scratching) before striking one of the grille blades and making a nasty divot; and it was covered with clear bra.

I started off with some super-thin 3M vinyl tape to define the edges, them followed-up with some blue painter's tape, and finally newspaper.

I laid down a mist coat first, followed-up be four progressively heavier coats. The finish came out great and the rock chips are filled in and not noticeable. Once I clean up the edges in a few days, it will be finished.

while we are on the topic of paint, anyone have experience with touch up paint. I have a gash on my front bumper from trying to get out of my three car filled backyard and hitting my pathfinder tow hitch. I ordered and QAB touch up paint but its very translucent so i have to put on multiple coats and it looks like crap. My method is to try and build up enough layers to fill the gash and then use a razor blade to shave off the excess. Then buff it out till its smooth. Does this sound good to anyone?

Touch-up paint is really only good for chips. Scratches/gashes really need a re-shoot. This is especially true of a pearl color like yours.

Crap. Id rather buy another bumper and just use it for car shows only instead of repainting this one and daily drive/drift it.

Well before you do that, I'd check with Manny at Baker. They can probably blend the paint. All i was trying to say was that there's no way to get a good finish with some touch-up paint.

Had a couple of spots where the Dip lifted in the grille area when I was peeling off the tape. I shot a little PlastiDip into a cup and using a very small modeler's brush was able to "fix" those small issues.

All that's left is scribing a new edge on the spoiler (both sides) and I think I'm done.

I wish he was helping me tomorrow. The blaze blue needs to be ordered online since no one seems to carry it in stores. And I need monies.

Blue rims for your Z???

It's been busy the whole afternoon, which is nice... mainly is one of the frame sales-rep came in and we were chatting about Northern European and all the sudden he mentioned Kimi Raikkonen.....

The sales turned into an hour talk of formula-1 and cars and drivers.....
