370Z Model Kits

I wasn't sure where to put this, but I'm wondering. What would the interest be in having a replica of your personal vehicle. I build models. This is the kit I would use. Nissan Fairlady Z (Z34) (Model Car) Tamiya No.315|Sports Car

It'd be done up exactly as your personal vehicle.

This would be a great idea to those who are done with their Zs for good, but even then new mods and new changes to the Z happen every so often, so it all depends, im sure I wouldn't want a replica when a month later my car looks totally different and you have to make another one. :icon17:

Very true.

Or you can test out what you think you might want to go with your Z as far as looks go. I know where you’re going with this. I like it I’m sure others have built one of these already not to mention add to their collection.

Price wise what would we be looking at? I could possibly go for a 40th Edition one, if you can capture the paint color. haha.

Skorch 10-05-2012 11:57 AM

I've built that kit before. But I'm not being very good at them, it only turned out so-so. It was the highest quality kit I've tried to put together though - good stuff! If I had more time I'd definitely try it again.

The kits about $60, if I can find it in the states. (I'mport is ridiculous expensive, even for something so small) Depending on he amount of work. A copy of the 40th, maybe $100 depending on how hard it is to match the paint. There's even some aftermarket parts, like small TE37s that can be placed on them.

(yea, even on the small scale. hahaha)

USMCram 10-05-2012 12:04 PM

I've been building for a few years. I'll just pick up a kit and work on it so ya'll can check it out.

Mitco39 10-05-2012 12:05 PM

Can you get a LHD car? I would assume no, but hey worth asking.

Yes.

Tamiya makes nice model kits. I just wish it wasn't a curbside model.

USMCram 10-05-2012 12:18 PM

That can always be fixed, but then that would require a hell of a lot more time and be pricier. I've done aircraft for a while, I stopped because I got that whole accuracy bug and I was starting to spend TOO much for one kit.

Yeah I put away all my model stuff. I started to get into scratch building which got very expensive and time consuming. Custom leather 1/24 scale interiors take a lot of time and result in a lot of cut fingers. :bowrofl:

USMCram 10-05-2012 12:29 PM

agreed

VDC_OFF 10-05-2012 12:56 PM

cool site! I have a z collection at home that i can add some of these to. Just curious though, how would you do bodykits and such. Or are you just saying you can match them paint wise.

USMCram 10-05-2012 01:25 PM

I could do the aftermarket stuff. I can scratch build.

USMCram 10-05-2012 01:31 PM

That would take quite some time though as it is not easy.

VDC_OFF 10-05-2012 01:32 PM

scratch build, so you would use some type a plastic shaping compound or something?

USMCram 10-05-2012 01:52 PM

Just depends. Either make a mold out of some sort of putty and then make the part with resin, or try to shape it out of sheet plastic or something similar. More than likely, it would be trying to mold the part, if I couldn't find it already premade somewhere else.

VDC_OFF 10-05-2012 01:56 PM

haha thats awesome. Mini bodykits!

When 3d printing becomes more mainstream it's going to be revolutionary for model builders.

Tamiya's TS-38 gunmetal spray paint is pretty close. This is what I used on my 40th 370Z model. I don't have pics to show b/c it turned out to be one of those projects that I haven't had time to finish yet.

Here's a thread from someone else who did the same thing:

I want two! I need two custom kits though, Amuse, and Zele. That will probably cost alot of labor though. If I were you I would make molds because they are such popular kits.

You should invest in a desktop printer. Although you'd need 3D files for all the parts you'd want to print...
