we need like a fight the tickets thread lol. i feel like i am getting harrased by cops left and right... i got a ticket going 40 in a 25. apperently i hit 40 in a 150 feet spread and made a 90 degree turn at 40 in a busy street. the only issue is that the cop did not radar me nor did he lidar me or pace me. he saw my car from the next street over from the rear (not even the side) and could tell how fast i was going (in his world). btw this was at night. is there some special night vision rear veiw eye training im missing?

This is true but only if you don't drive smart. If you're the only one on the highway don't speed because if you get hit with LIDAR you're toast. All you have to do is make sure you have other cars in front of you so that if they get hit with LIDAR the V1 will detect the "splatter" of the laser from the other car and will give you advance warning. This is what's stated on the V1 manual and I can tell you firsthand that this is a TRUE statement!

A radar detector will avoid you speeding tickets only if used correctly

I got one a week into ownership but got it dropped down to $150 no points. Now I only punch it where I absolutely know I'm safe. Theres a time and place for fun and it doesn't have to be the track

That is complete BS and you need to fight that. He will have to prove beyond doubt in court. Just state all of your evidence that you did hear I doubt he would even show up. God I'm glad I don't live in the south :stirthepot:

You really can't count on the detectors protecting you or giving you advanced warning enough to slow down. Told most members this before, as I gave up on radar detectors more than 20yrs ago. Current detectors will just not repond far enough away to allow you to slow down and avoid detection.

I just got my first speeding ticket in 20yrs. here in vegas in a work zone by a state cop that paced or guessed the speed. Back on the east coast most courts won't accept a paced speed reading.

End result 5mph over plead down to a non moving violation $250 fine, so it just goes to show you that even if the cop doesn't clock you with any radar or laser, they can always fall back on the old guestimate and nail you any way, if the state court allows a pace reading.

My seven year old Passport 8500 let's me know two to three miles ahead of time (Ka band). They definitely give enough warning.

And obviously there's no warning if they're sitting up there doing the math when you pass between two points, other than you seeing them from a distance (they have to be visible, otherwise it's entrapment). I use traffic for this too, people ahead hit their brakes every time they get a whiff of the 5-0, and no matter the time of night there's always traffic on our freeways and surface streets.

I'm definitely not a fan of Radars. As much as I want the V1, every time I get pulled over is when I'm borrowing my friends V1 for a long trip/cruise and the only thing it's good for is knowing they didn't clock you if you didn't hear it going crazy as you pass by them. How far over the limit where you going?
