Death Watch: Michael Jackson

BBC NEWS | Americas | Michael Jackson taken to hospital

Quote:

Pop star Michael Jackson has been rushed to hospital in Los Angeles after suffering a suspected cardiac arrest.

The singer was not breathing when paramedics arrived at his Bel Air home at about 1230 (1930GMT), media reports say.

Unconfirmed reports on TMZ website and in the Los Angeles Times say the 50-year-old star has died.

The paramedics performed CPR on Jackson as the ambulance took him to the UCLA medical centre, officials say.

Crowds have begun to gather outside the facility, whose emergency centre has been roped off by police.

The star was due to begin a series of comeback concerts with an appearance at London's O2 arena on 13 July.

He has a history of health problems and has not completed a concert tour in 12 years.

Jackson began his career as a child in family group The Jackson 5.

He then went on to achieve global fame as a solo artist with smash hits such as "Thriller" and "Bad".

But the singer has been dogged by controversy and money trouble in recent years, becoming a virtual recluse.
Certain news sources are confirming he's passed.

Cow you beat me by like 2 minutes. LOL!

Yeah, first there were reports of his cardiac arrest. Now reports that he is dead... It's really kind of sad.

Thiller hands down.

I was surprised no one had posted it, so I rushed to beat everyone. It's sad he passed, but... so it goes.... He kind of stole Farrah Fawcett's thunder, though.

Very true

NPR is quoting sources saying MJ's passed. The BBC is still saying he's "gravely ill."

The other news sources are confirming his passing, but I like to check with those two sites first as they're more interested in accuracy over ratings & "OMG WE WERE THE FIRST TO REPORT SOMETHING!!"

omg, i can't believe he is gone. damn...

cow 06-25-2009 05:49 PM

To be honest, I'm surprised he lived this long. He's looked pretty sickly in the few pictures I've seen of him the past few years.

Maybe Paul McCartney will "get back" the Beatles catalogue.

Wow... I need to call my boy; he is one of Michael's first cousins..... So sad...

Sad to see him go before being able to clear up a lot of the mystery surrounding him and his life in resent years. I was looking forward to his comeback tour to see if he still had it.

I liked jacksons music just fine, but I think his death was best. He was a tortured in his own mind, and it was probably more humane this way, much like putting down a sick animal.

Sad news to hear. Especially knowing he went without first finding some sanity and enjoying life.
