I was wondering how one could get a 6mm peg to fit in a 5.56mm hole. It fits the AR-15 platform, not a standard AR-15. Per Wikipedia: "a new barrel, magazine and bolt are required to convert to the 6mm ARC." Seems like a stiffer recoil spring might be needed but maybe not. Appears to be an easy conversion if one has the right tools.

Interesting concept, especially for hunters, but I like the AR-15 because of the light recoil. A .243 ain't bad but a tad more than what I prefer for the plinking that I do.

Some DoD special unit has adopted it for use. From what I read. It fills the gap between.556 and 7.52. I look for the .556 to be replaced in the near future. Barrel, bolt and recoil spring is needed. Will fit standard mags.

Funny, I heard the same thing when the 6.8 SPC came out. I've got a 6.8 that is on the AR15 platform & I have an AR-10. I like my 6.8, it's comfortable to shoot, much more than my 1903A3 Springfield. But then again, it's a bolt action over a gas-operated system.

There's a company that makes something called a Warlock, that makes changing calibers easy. The upper stays the same, but they have a locking mechanism that allows you to change barrels (and BCG) to a different caliber.

They are only testing it. No official adoption yet. A contract for a batch of rifles and ammo doesn't mean it going to be adopted. Barret and Hornady announcing these contracts is an advertising ploy to attract attention. Did you notice Barret said those rifles will be available to the public soon once the contract build was finished? The announcement was only to sell rifles to the public later. ""An un-named "DoD Special Unit" bought some of those rifles, must be a good rifle."" (sarcasm)

Being tested by an un-named "DoD Special Unit" doesn't mean anything. The DoD/Special Forces are always testing the latest and greatest. Very few products make it past the first initial tests. Especially if it is a unit that operates over seas. A non-standard rounds and parts make resupply that more difficult. I remember hearing about some "DoD Unit" buying a batch of Tavors. Do you see US forces running around with Tavors?

All the talk about the 6mm ARC reminds me of all the talk when the 6.8 SPC came out. 6.8 SPC was supposed to replace the 5.56mm. Still waiting on that.

Also from what I've read like the 6.8 SPC and 6.5 Grendel, the 6mm ARC needs special mags to work properly/reliably. Most people are having success using 6.5 Grendel mags. Special mags will detract from it from being adopted. 300 Blk was so successful because it didn't require special mags and you didn't lower your round count by swapping to it. If I read it right a standard sized 30 round AR-15 mag can only hold 24 6mm ARC.

Don't get me wrong. It's a cool round but I don't see it catching on like 300 Blk did or its pro's out weighing a good 308 rifle in the long term. I'm looking to build a long range AR-15 and this round is has peek my interest. We'll see what happens.

TBH, just my , most hunters if they want a bigger round will most likely go with the 300BLK in an AR-15. Especially if they hunt at ranges under 100 yards against deer sized targets.
