In WWII. They had short M1's called tanker rifles. It's what some kept in the tanks.

From what I've read/heard the "tanker" designation is a misnomer. IIRC the T26 "tanker" was for jungle troops but due to wood on the stock swelling in the jungle environment made the T26 unreliable so it was never issued. The "tanker" nickname came after the war in an attempt to sell them to the general public.

Absolutely! Or the M1 carbine. Glorified pistol, but easier to manage. My dad had an M1 Carbine when i was a kid. Also had calico m100. Man he had some cool stuff! Wish he had kept them.

Well I was almost right;
Scott A. Duff Publications and Historic Martial Arms: T26, misnamed the 'Tanker Garand' The M1 “Tanker” Garand Myth The T26 "Tanker" has a 18" barrel.
( Click to show/hide )
The Shuff's Mini-G has a 16" barrel.

Notice the extra 2" piece of hand guard on the T26.

I'm looking to pick up a Garand at some point. I've got a 1903A3 made by Smith Corona, and a NORINCO M14 (which I think I'll happily trade plus cash for a Springfield Armory M1A). I just need the Garand to complete the 'modern era wood stock battle rifles' collection. I've shot the M1 carbine (pistol round). What a POS.....

Yeah, its not the greatest designed rifle..lol.. I like the history of older firearms. Grew up watching war movies and its pretty cool being able to hold and shoot the same weapons I saw on TV. If I had the Carbine, I probably wouldnt shoot as much though. The Carbine replicas are complete garbage.

Browning Automatic Rifle
A lot of people want to know about owning full automatic firearms.
You can own them.Took me 3 years to get through paperwork. The crazy prices are because the weapon needs to be made before 1986. dealing on BAR 30-06.The big boy in WWII.Made an offer on this ten years ago. Now he wants to sell but price is more than new Z. Still that is a better deal than I have seen. |

I paid $1,200 for my Ingram MAC 10 45ACP. Now I could sell it for about $8,000.
Here's a link to full auto gun prices. https://www.davidspiwak.com/guns/

Some dude let me shoot his MG42 at the Ben Avery Shooting range in Arizona. Gave him a few hundred rounds of 30-06 for his Garand as a thank you. He also had an auto AK pistol and an AR. I cringe thinking how much money he dumped in those three firearms alone.
