So does that make an ACOG a Tier 2 scope? During the second battle of Fallujah, Marines took out targets at 800M and beyond (which is past the stated accurate distance for the platform) with the original "donut of death" sight picture (since changed in milspec).

You ever look though a high end Schmidt & Bender PM II, Valdada IOR, Nightforce, Vortex, US Optics. They all have one thing in common. Either US or German made glass. And I DIDN'T say ANYTHING about marksmanship either.

If I ever went for the sub 0.5 MOA match M1A I might consider a premium scope, but as it is I can't justify the cost. |

Once you use a Tier 1. You'll never go back. Between me and my 3 sons. We got one of each. Oldest son was a sniper with Marine Recon, the youngest was a sniper with Army Rangers. Both did 2 tours in the middle east. Elk hunting trips are real fun with those 2. I got the longest kill......so I got a head shot. It never quits between those 2.

Just put in for my NM elk hunt for next fall. Have to wait for the draw next month to see if I get a license. Going to be using my Rem 700, 7mm Rem Mag with a 168 Berger bullet. Have to work on that load. Haven't used it before.

Do you use supports? (bipod on rifle, shooting stick, full tripod with lock, or just shoot prone and use your arms) Is there a threshold of magnification you can stand and use your rifle with? So that higher magnification requires sitting, prone or some method of support. What's the highest magnification you've used in the field? I'm leery of higher magnifications on scopes, it's a sucker bet with telescopes and binoculars which fuels my suspicions here. Thanks in advance |

TiborasaurusRex does a good job on explaining things on his Sniper 101 videos. He covers everything, including optics.

If Sig's optic's are as good as their gun's I would not be concerned about the quality. I haven't heard anything bad about the Romeo Red dots but with a design similar to Holosun I'm not sure if it is worth spending almost double on the SIG. I have a few Holosuns and they are solid optics. Edit: After doing a little research it seams that Sig red dots use proprietary mounts, where as almost all of the Holosun red dots use Aimpoint style mounts giving you more options in the mounts category.

I had a chance to get the pair for about $450. I passed. You are right about the mounts and that concerns me.
I am looking at the Sig Romeo 1x30 for the DE too. Making some comparisons.
